3 of his losses were controversial

I'm not going into another lengthy reply, we have both said our piece here, and I think we have both done a sterling job of putting forth our cases. They are there for the forum to read and decide who has made the more compelling argument, if anyone can actually be bothered that is!

However, I must say that in a shock role-reversal, it appears to be I who holds the sacred majority opinion this time...

    Till next time Beatboxer!!!! :good

Hopkins. He fought better opposition, and just the level of skill he has at the age of 40 is mind boggling.

Kessler is the only "big" win Slappy has that doesn't have an asterisk.

hopkins has a greater legacy but think of who he has beaten?

    smaller:
    ODLH
    Tito
    Pavlik
    winky..terrible fight

    his size:
    calzaghe LOSS
    RJJ LOSS
    JT LOSS LOSS

Bigger:tarver...I mean how good is that win looking now

but he has still accomplished more than JC

All 3 would have been controversial if they had went the other way as well.

Some would say he only got outworked rather than outboxed all 3 times (Calzaghe and Taylor twice,) but if you say the same thing went wrong three times, I see that as a weakness, not an excuse.

Agreed. Using the 10 point must scoring system, he lost all 3 times, maybe the rounds he won in those fights, he won more convincingly than he lost the rounds he lost, but he never won enough of them.

As far as legacy goes I think Hop will always be remembered as a boring fighter as well.

All the "great" ones that hopkins faced were blown up fighting way way out of their natural weight range. Winky, Oscar, Pavlik etc. etc. etc.

So he never really handled anyone that was stronger than him.

Calzaghe DID beat him. Two of the judges had him winning CLEARLY. And Hops was clearly NOT past his best when they fought. This is the truth.

  13. Clearly you're not familiar with middle age. No one is better in their 40s than they are in their 30s.
