I think fighters should work on becoming better and make coming into the fights in shape a priority then you'll see more KO's forget changing the equipment to make up for laziness

gloves are meant to protect a fighters hands more than they are the opponent.

knockouts come from proper punching technique and shots that you don't see coming. all this would do is cause more hand problems with fighters..

they're fine the way they are. it has to do more with a person's skill and style. it's alot more factors than just the gloves.

I don't actually uderstand your basic premise that more KO's = more entertainment....I don't think that this is the case at all. If you want more blood and snot just go and watch fights under London Ring Rules, that would probably slake your blood thirst :good

Better yet have them eliminate gloves altogether and watch boxers fight to the death.

You are exactly right. Everyone who has boxed will know that you physically feel the fist when you get tagged by a good shot, even with 16 oz gloves. The pillow example is too extreme.

What causes the knockout is the shaking of the head (brain), and gloves around 8-12 oz still easily do that. The difference is that punches from smaller gloves cause more superficial damage (cuts, broken bones, broken hands on impact, etc) and while larger gloves do that to a lesser extent, they rattle the head just as much as smaller ones do. Larger gloves have a somewhat larger surface, which more easily "pushes" you head back while a small glove's punch is more localized.

And if you ask me, we already have enough cuts as it is: fights being stopped on cuts are rarely satisfying .. i guess i only need to drop the names Lewis and Klitschko for that.

Body shot KO's will become more regular with smaller gloves however.

But there is also the aspect that glove blocking will be much less effective. I find the defensive form that we've had in boxing for over 60 years very aesthetically pleasing; i would hate to see that disappear. If you look at very old fights where they had tiny gloves, no mouthpiece, etc, you'll see that they held their hands low, barely threw combinations, couldn't use any glove blocking and tons of holding/wrestling. Ruiz would be proud. But i'm not a big fan of Ruizanisation of this great sport; keep the gloves as they are.

boxing doesnt need more fighters with horrible brain damage. smaller gloves w/ less padding = more injuries and a less safe sport. **** the ko's...it's about the safety of the athletes.

Go look at Gerald McClellan now as opposed to during his career and tell me we should have LESS protection for fighters...

Thats ALL I have to say on this subject.
