There is maybe a case for saying there is sometimes too big a size difference between the fighters in a lot of heavyweight fights but I don't think there are enough quality fighters in the division at the moment to split in two.

I seem to recall for a split second there was a ABC belt that had a Super-Heavyweight division. I recall watching a fight and everything on ESPN or Fox or something.

Thats the only time I remember seeing it but it was two huge linebacker type guys in the ring. The fight was horrible, so I didn't watch much and I can't remember the guys names. But the I must have saw that around 1999 or 2000.

No, I seem to remember something similar too...

I don't if it was an ABC title fight or just some random experiment they were doing for a superheavy division though.

It's worth thinking about. Nowadays boxers like the Klitschko's and Valuev, even Lennox are some of the biggest Heavyweights there has ever been and in future it seems they are due to get bigger. Why not, I don't think the average Heavy would have much of a chance against these giants. True all those mentioned are reknowned master boxers, but the main reason they are sucessful is because of their massive height, weight and reach advantage.

Although I partly agree with it, I can't see it making the Heavy division any better, in fact it would probably spoil it because it would cease to be the flagship division, although it would be more competetive. The new Heavy champs would have lost respect and the newly appointed SuperHeavy champs would be in a less competitive division than what the Heavys was. Then you have the problem of where you put the weight limit. 250lbs? That would probabl restrict Heavyweight to anyone lighter/smaller than Wlad. Maybe a better Idea would be to expand Cruiserweight to up 219lbs, say, and have the revised Heavyweight division at 220lbs +. That way Heavy would still remain the flagship division, it wouldn't lose anything in terms of competition and it may only improve the relatively young Cruiser division. As people get bigger why keep adding bigger weight classes? Keep the same amount of divisions but expand them to suit the change in human growth.

There is already a big leap from LHW to cruiser; think it's 25 pounds compared to only 7 between SMW and LHW and similar as you go down the weights. It's a big gap for anybody that gets too big for LHW. There was talk recently of a supercruiserweight at about 220 pounds. I don't think anyone wants any more weights but if you're gonna have 17 or whatever number there are, IMO it would make more sense to have a weight class round there and do away with some of the midget weights that only have 3-4 pounds between them.

Simply, no. The larger a person gets, typically they are slower and have worse coordination. Smaller Heavyweights can still bang with the big guys with the right gameplan.
