Squeaking a close SD over 43 yr old Hopkins is pretty much the only thing Calzaghe did that is worth mentioning , the RJJ fight does not count toward any type of real accomplishment , even Calzaghe himself stated that RJJ has long been shot, that is ... before he signed the contract to fight him..

The only two logical choices are Pacman and Margarito .... my vote goes to Pacman for beating (in a close fight) one of the top fighters in the sport, moving up in weight and demolishing David Diaz at 135 in dramatic fashion... and then doing what was impossible in most peoples eyes, moving up two more weight classes and Knocking out DLH ..

Margarito is a close 2nd, but with only 2 fights for the year... I can't take him over Pacman... if he would have beaten one more of the top Welters, or taken on PW or Santos at 154 and won.. he would be the easy choice.

I am no calzaghe hater, but anyone who votes for him is doing so purely on non-objective biases. There is no way he had a more impressive year than Pacman or Margarito

Have to go with Pacman.... close FOTY candidate with fellow top 3/4 p4per in Marquez, pisses all over Diaz 1 weight north at 135 then double pisses all over DLH 2 weights north at 147.

Calzaghe sqeaked by Hopkins and beat up a Grandpa. Hardly FOTY material.
Pacquiao lost to Marquez and fought two walking punchbags. Hardly FOTY material.

Margarito destroyed Cintron and Cotto. FOTY material.
43 year old Hopkins arguably drew with Calzaghe and schooled Pavlik. FOTY material.
JMM beat Pacquiao and a good Casamayor. FOTY material.

It's a toss up between those 3. For me it's Marquez.

If we base on $$$$, then DLH will win hands down.

  14. Vic Darchinyan - fighter of the year easily in my opinion - Pac arguably lost to JMM, got a good win against the weakest of the LW champs, then achieved something great by going to WW and stopping DLH, but DLH was obviously shot - which takes the shine off the win somewhat.

Vic has beaten some great fighters and looked very good in doing so as well - especially as how he was wrote off after the donaire lost, and he was massive underdog against Mijares.... FOTY for me!
