There are always a lot of threads on here about fighters having glass jaws but what about fighters who can take punches to the chin but not to the head? I think I'm right in saying that in all four knockdowns calzaghe has suffered all have been punches to the head not the chin, any other fighters out there with a similar story? I think toney may be another. I would have thought a punch landed flush on the chin would cause more damage then a blow to the head or does this depend on the fighter?
Body is harder than both IMO. A perfect bodyshot cripples ANYONE - not always the case for a head or chin shot. But to the threadstarter: China Chin and Glass Jaw aren't terms which apply specifically to punches to the chin and jaw, they just mean a guy's ability to absorb/take punches to the head/face. If someone got KO'd by a right jab to the nose, someone couldn't then say he doesn't have a weak chin because he wasn't hit on the chin or that he doesn't have a Glass Jaw because he wasn't hit on the jaw.
That's because they know how to defend. A world-class bodypuncher can KO anyone though, if he catches them perfectly. Mayweather was badly hurt to the body by Castillo, a broke rib if I recall correctly. Imagine he had been in with Chavez??
Temple shots are pretty hard to take. Amir Khan was decked by little more than a slap by Michael Gomez to the temple. Yet he absorbed some pretty tasty work to the body - despite being clueless on the inside.
Generally a head shot does not hurt - it just scrambles your legs a little. Body shots do hurt though. Whenever you see a body shot stoppage, you can see the pain on their screwed up faces. Yet often a head-shot stoppage usually has the defeated boxer complaining he is fine to the ref.
In my experience getting hit on the head or even the chin is worse in the morning than live! Bodyshots just plain hurt.
It depends. A shot on the temple can hurt anyone even if they have an Iron Chin. Having a Glass Jaw is perhaps the most embarrassing thing in Boxing.
A solid blow is a This content is protected blow! (Reactions to them vary, Don't know why just the way it is)
