Nazeem has been wobbled on several occasions whereas Joe always pops up and never seemed really wobbled. Joe clearly.
I don't know a helluva lot about Naz's chin. Calzaghe's chin, however, now there is something to behold. I rarely find myself wanting to praise the ****, but his chin - I do believe it is forged out of titanium. In Rd. 4., when Kessler landed those right uppercuts, I do not understand how it is possible to absorb a blow like that and stay conscious, let alone stil standing. He just shook it off and kept coming! Utter freak.
Chin is fundamental to being a GREAT champion. If a fighter knows he has a great chin he is able to put himself in harm's way as he knows he can take a blow and come back stonger. This is linked to fighting heart. And in terms of fighting heart these two names do not belong in the same sentence.
It's not clear one way or the other in my mind. If I made a close examination it might reveal something, but offhand I can't really seperate them. Both guys got hit with alot of stupid shots. Generally better caliber fighters don't take the risks that you found with these two, particularly Hamed, who could have cut down on all knockdowns entirely if he had been the least bit conservative.
most of naz' knockdowns were due to his unorthodox off balance style. and i've seen joe more hurt when knocked down... tough to call but i gotta say joe b/c he was caught more flush & hurt, yet still came back to win.
The issues with Joe's chin are a bit strange. He's been hit by better shots than he's been put down with, although the Mitchell knockdown was a peach, which would have knocked alot of other fighters out. Naz was never as hurt, but I reckon Joe's took better shots than Naz (Kessler uppercut R4, Jones Uppercut R6.)
Salem and perhaps even Bika stunned him once. It doesn't really count as being hurt mind, Calzaghe doesn't actually feel pain like normal people when he is in a fighting mindset. Without feeling pain he cannot actually be hurt by definition, only suffer slight momentary discombobulation of his equilibrium. Hamed can be Hurt. Hamed also tended to move with punches, whereas Calzaghe would forcefully headbutt the fighters gloves. Calzaghe has been hit hard many times more as a result of this.
I think you are seriously overrating Calzaghe's chin. It is nowhere near as strong as Toney's or Hopkins's IMO. Calzaghe has been visibly hurt a good few times. How many times have you seen Hopkins or Toney hurt? I would argue Hopkins has been noticeably hurt once (he was pretty hurt vs Mercado - at high altitude) and Toney twice (hurt a little vs Johnson and Peter at heavyweight).
i'm a big calzaghe fan. he is or was my favourite active fighter but i'll give him stick or in this case point out weaknesses when nescesarry.
