Biggs never had a china chin, in fact his chin stood up to some sturdy stuff during his career, he was often too brave for his own good.. The tale about the party by the Main events people is absolutely true, it was at the Trump Plaza ballrooms, Biggs was landed with a massive bill for the champaign reception..
I knew the guy. Came to my house a few times to watch some PPV. I asked him about his career and he said he just didn't have the right people around him. He saw himself as someone people can make money from. From the promotor to the trainer, boxing was a dirty bussines. When your a good prospect you have the world around you. As soon as they sense you may not have it your thrown away for the next big name. But having said that he did make some decent money. Lost it with a crazzy lifestyle. He had almost nothing by the time I met him. He helped out in gyms to make a living and was being supported by his girlfriend. She broke up with him and he went back to Atlanta. That was the last I saw him.
I'd not heard that one before, that ****ing stinks. There is a book out there about fighters that Tyson beat....might be called "the longest round" or something like that? Anyway Biggs is in it, it's well worth a read. Think it also features Carl Williams, Mitch Green  and Berbick. One thing I remember is that apparently after the fight Tyson and Biggs were on decent terms - they bumped into each other a while after when they were both dating women that lived in the same building. Well at least Tyson claims his was a woman anyway.
i remember that filthy low statement Mike made to Larry Merchant immediately after thier fight, "Biggs made woman like justures every time i hit him like, Ugghhhhh (crying whimpering sound) " It was a scumbags choice of words, it was a low blow and proved Mikes level of class at the time..
that was my lasting memory of the tyson v biggs fight. watched it for the 1st time in 20 years yesterday and i was checking to see if biggs was whimpering when being hit.
i have that book, can't remember the name of it,FEARING TYSON i think is what it was called, tyrell was one of the fighters interviewed, and the author had to go to noth philly to interview him, last i heard he was in california and was coaching and training tank abbott, when tank was still in his prime as an mma fighter, dunno if he is back in philly tho, anybody know for sure if he is? thats horrible about main events and the party, hella fukd up, i cant believe someone like the duvas and finkel would be that shallow to do that to him, thats a scumbag move, aweful
Disagree! Biggs was a solid pro, was confident in himself. However, he had only 15 pro fights when he challenged a peak Tyson. I feel this was porr management. Biggs' only success against Tyson was for about two minutes of the first round. After that, Tyson got to him, & it was downhill from then on. If ever anyone wants to see what a sustained & quality body attack, then I suggest you watch this fight. Tyson punished Biggs' body for the most part of the fight. Biggs was picked apart methodically. Tyson summed it up perfectly when he said: "everyone's got a plan until they get hit". Great display by Tyson.
Tyrell was a great amateur, who lost two times to Teofilio Stevenson(though he was robbed the second time). He had good boxing ability, not a good punch, and got caught up in the drug lifestyle.Truthfully, he was lucky to beat David Bey before Tyson.
Damiani beat the **** out of Biggs, even before the cuts (re)surfaced: [yt]vYJgMxWuduM&feature=related[/yt] Damiani was impressive enough in this fight that people were actually talking about a possible Tyson matchup afterward. As for Biggs, he had some very good speed and skills, and TREMENDOUS heart (all of which he displayed in his landmark fight against Tyson), but he lacked power and couldn't keep himself from getting caught up in slugfests, which proved to be his fatal flaw. He did give Bowe a very commendable fight when past his peak, and actually staggered him in the 1st round (which led to Bowe's rep for having a suspect chin on the way up), but he was still in his prime when glass-nosed Damiani bullied his way through him even quicker and easier than Tyson did.
The bottom line on Biggs is that he was moved into a top-level fight with Tyson too fast, and this, and the drugs, ruined him. Now, as I and others noted, the fact that he was burning the candle at both ends was largely WHY the Duvas rushed to a title shot, to cash out - but the fact remains that if it had been possible to develop him further, and more slowly, he might have been the guy who upset Tyson, not Douglas. He had the size and skills, and his chin did not really become glassy until the latter part of his career, after he had been ruined by Tyson - and the drugs.
