Once you learn a thing or two about boxing you might show a bit more respect. Calzaghe has no more bums on his resume than anybody else.
Once you get your head out of Calzaghe's ass, you'll show a little more intelligence... Calzaghe has: Reid (toss-up fight, and not an "A" fighter) Eubank (basically done as a fighter) Lacy (belt holder and proven hype job) Kessler (belt holder, good fighter, no real top-notch opponents) Hopkins (43 years old, almost a toss-up fight) Jones (shot to pieces) THOSE ARE HIS 6 BIGGEST FIGHTS. THE OTHER 40 ARE JUST ABOUT WORTHLESS, AS THEY INCLUDE 95% PURE BUMS. OUT OF THOSE 6, JONES IS WORTHLESS, LACY IS, KESSLER REMAINS TO BE SEEN, REID WAS A GOOD FIGHTER BUT NOT GREAT, AND EUBANK WAS DONE. HOPKINS WAS HIS HUGE WIN, AND HE WAS 43, HAD NO STAMINA LEFT, AND STILL ALMOST BEAT CALZAGHE. I think Calzaghe is a very good fighter. But for some supposedly ATG HOF fighter, his resume sucks.
he 's just doing what americans do to euro who deserve to fight an american star but don't get to becuse they need to fight more in america. It's actually makes sense Calzaghe is a huge European star and if he fights again it will be in europe. euro's really don't know much about chad dawson if he fought a couple of highly regarded euros' like Erdie or or Garay then that would set up a mega match in europe. i makes dollars and cents :good
Because if Calzaghe wants to be 'the man' at light heavyweight, then he needs to beat the man who is seen as the best opponent. Personally, I think clearly beating Hopkins would be better proof of Calzaghe's status as 'the man'. :think
really i just think joe will retire. i don't think he has much love for the sport anymore other then watching it and promoting. he seems satisfied with his place in history
Apart from Manfredo I agree with you. Brian Magee would've been a more testing opponent. Actually RJJ was also pretty far gone but the other four are a good set of opponents. The only sensible fight Joe can have is Hopkins but its the kinda fight you really want to know the result of without actually having to suffer through the actual match itself.
he fought manfredo to get his name out there more in america it was the same reason for the b-hop and RJJ fights. manfredo was actually pretty recognized becuase of a show called the contender that was AIREd nationaly on free TV.
Garay is European now? I'm not sure Erdei is that highly regarded in Germany even? Beating Erdei does nothing to 'set up' a fight against Calzaghe in the UK anyway.
you still havent figured it out yet? when your on top there will always be someone next until one of the two happen you lose or destroy all competition.. and i mean all .. from top to bottom
he's known more in europe then dawson is **** say dawson fought clinton woods just as a keep busy fight that would help to
You appear to think 'Europe' is a monolithic entity in boxing terms, which is far from the truth. Far more likelihood that a reasonably informed British boxing fan would have heard of Dawson than Garay, for example.
Calzaghe had already established himself as a dominant champion at 168. At his age it is virtually impossible to do it in another weight division. What he is doing now is looking for the biggest money fights, and rightly so. If Dawson was a real champion he would NOT have ducked and easy mandatory. By doing so he devalued himself, and reduced the expected revenue stream. Boxing is about money. When you make bad decisions, you make bad money.
