How would he force the fight? The Tyson/Holyfield fight was years in the making and the fight the entire world wanted, not to mention the biggest fight in Heavyweight history. Lewis was out. And just to address the issue above about the "step-aside" money. Lewis offered a fight, Tyson offered to pay money instead...call it what you want "ducking" or whatever, Tyson chose to go another direction rather then fight, not Lewis. There is always a "reason" why a fighter chooses not to fight another fighter. Whether you agree with that reason or not doesn't change the fact that it was Tyson's or Tyson's camps fault that the fight didn't get made, not Lewis's :deal
Once again... it was Tyson vs Seldon.. not Tyson vs Holyfield. Lewis actually turned down a 13.5 mill guarantee to fight Tyson before agreeing to take the step aside cash. There was even a court injunction that stopped Tyson from taking any other fight at Heavyweight until he fought Lewis... however, Lewis turned down the guarantee... and took the step aside cash allowing Tyson to fight Seldon instead. After that... the train passed him by, again.
100% correct! lewis screwed himself on fighting tyson, and bowe, lewis will tell anyone who listens to him tyson and bowe ducked him when in reality he didnt take the offers when they were there because he and his manager thought lennox was the biggest and best out there, when in actuality no one at the time even cared who lewis was, lewis outpriced himself and shot down the guarnatees that were there
Actually he's not making it up, but neither is it the whole story. Here's a link http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?sec=health&res=9C06E7DD1039F937A35754C0A960958260 The World Boxing Council wants Tyson to defend against Lennox Lewis of England, a former champion and now its No. 1 contender. Lewis turned down a $13.5 million guarantee to fight Tyson. Lewis then accepted $4 million from King to step aside and allow Tyson to fight Seldon, with the proviso that Tyson, assuming he beat Seldon, would fight Lewis next. Tyson is expected to receive $30 million for fighting Seldon. Now Lewis's handlers say they will guarantee Tyson $45 million to fight Lewis, but Tyson seems more interested in fighting Evander Holyfield, a former champion. If Tyson bypasses Lewis, the W.B.C. will strip Tyson of his title for refusing to fight its top-ranked contender. It would then match Lewis and Oliver McCall, its second-ranked contender, for the vacant title. If all those things happened, the next big fight would probably be the Lewis-McCall winner against -- who else? -- Tyson. As far as Lewis was concerned, the train certainly wasn't suppose to pass him by.
Exactly. Lewis then acts suprised when immediately after the Seldon fight, they are already promoting Tyson vs Holyfield. Lewis knew damn well that was going to happen.... EVERYONE did. Why on earth would Tyson have payed Lewis step aside money to fight Seldon, only to turn right back around and fight Lewis? It was never going to happen. Which is why Lewis should have taken the 13.5 million that he was guaranteed to fight Tyson and fought him.
No way Iron Mike was afraid, whjen the ring was seperated he just wanted to get it on and crush the guys skull lol
I dont think Tyson was afraid at all, look at all the guys he fought and the number of actual fights he had pro and amateur (let alone street fights no doubt) at the end of the day he may have had a deep down feeling he woul dloose if they fight went longer than 4 rounds but im sure he wasnt afraid! The guys a fighter, was brought up a fighter he was never one of those guys who tried boxing out because they thaught they could make some money
A fighter going into a fight against someone he knows is better than him, has to be afraid. It's basic human nature. Tyson would have known that against Lewis, he only had a couple of good rounds in him, and that Lewis while not young, still had most of his skills in tact. How can you watch the Rahman rematch, which is the last fight Lewis fought, and not be somewhat scared going into the ring with the guy who did that? I given Tyson alot of credit for going into the fight with Lewis, pretty much knowing he was going to get a **** kicking and he did it anyway. He must have found it somewhat ironic that many, many fighters he faced were in the same boat he finally found himself in.
:huh :deal And even if everyone knew it wouldn't be the very next fight like you claim, there is no way anyone expected it to take as long as it did. That happened because of Tyson wanting "just one more tune up" for the next few years. It was TYSON's fault the fight happened when it did, nobody elses. No amount of crying and revisionist history will chance that.
