Would Floyd Mayweather jr. need a tuneup fight prior to facing Manny Pacman?
Bonus question- If so who should Floyd fight as a tuneup?

Yes i would if i was in his position, not really sure who though, best to be a southpaw if he's fighting pacquiao but no one really has his style, i'd probably fight luis collazo, a good tune up fight to get back in shape against a decent opponent

I don't think so. But it wouldn't hurt.

He won't but I think it would be better for him if he did, having a tune up fight to shake the rust off after being away for over a year then facing Pac or Margarito, the latter won't happen though even though I think Floyd would come out with a UD win.

Nah, didn't Roach say he wouldn't let this fight happen anyway?

Probably not, but it would be better if he did.

If he's going to fight Pac he won't need one because he's so much better. and bigger.

No, and he can't have one. If Floyd lets too much time elapse, Arum will make Pac-JMM III or Hatton will agree to a lower cut and Floyd might not get the opportunity to have the fight at all if Pac loses.

    I've gone for 'yes'.

Any fighter taking such a long time out of the ring will normally suffer from ring rust (I say normally because people only have to cast their minds back a few months, if that, to Vitali Klitchsko's win against Samuel Peter. Though, saying that, Pac Man and Peter are poles apart in ability and styles)

Mayweather will need to be at his best to beat Pac at 140 and, in my opinion, operating at around 85 - 95% of his capability at 147 to win. Both of these are most unlikely walking into a ring after what would have been around 20 months out.

Who should he fight? It will have to be someone who will test him (as much as anyone can test Mayweather) but not someone with more than a 25% chance of winning. At 140 I'd put him in with someone like Kendall Holt or Ricardo Torres and at 147 maybe remind people about how controversial his fight with Zab Judah was and get them back in for a re-match.

I say no. He can shake all the rust off bustin' people's asses in the gym.

Secondly, we know he wouldn't take a fight that's not $$$$ that is beyond stratosphere. And a tune-up surely would not bring this.

I'm sure I'm in a HUGE minority here, but I would LOVE to see PBF and Zab go at it again. I don't care that **** would be hot.:deal

Of course he would! Nobody can stay away from competition for as long as he has and still restart out on the right foot, look at Hoya... Exception made to SRL in 1987, it is very important to feel that need, that urgency to get back to your physical and mental peak in order to win big. Manny is very motivated and technically/strategically/physically sound at this point... Floyd can't just spar and rely on that instant recall when the bell goes, he definitely needs a tune-up, nothing big, nothing risky, just to get back on the right track again.

If I was in PBF's position I would but knowing how he is he won't.
