I would have said it means plenty personally, specifically that anyone hoping to be the man at that weight class has to go through him. Plus the division is not ****, Ring placed it as 7th best in a recent feature on their website so while it's not the hottest it's not bad either.

Hatton has beaten Tszyu (#1 at the time and #3 p4p), Castillo (#2 and #7 p4p), Malignaggi (#2 at the time) plus Urango (current #8) and Lazcano (current #10). That's enough top guys for me. You are never going to get a fighter who has beaten EVERY top guy in the division because as soon as you beat a couple, some more "top" guys come along. However, Hatton clearly has the most impressive resume in the division. Witter was only a "champ for a day" sort like Malignaggi and whilst Bradley looked good in that fight it is the ONLY good win on his resume.

A linear title in another weight class against a borderline top 10 p4p fighter with a 45-1 record and who is unbeaten at that weight? How could it not be a good win for Pac? If he was to win the fight convincingly, it would arguably be his third best win behind Barrera 1 and Morales 2.
You seriously rate those as "top guys"? Tszyu was a fantastic win, but Castillo was very shot, Malignaggi may have been #2 but that says more about the state of the division than Paullie actually being any good, and Uragno and Lazcano are average fighters at best. Thats hardly a strong resume.

There are plenty of options for Pacquiao that would do his legacy a lot more good than bludgeoning Ricky Hatton, guys like Marquez, Cotto, Mayweather, hell even Margarito if he really thinks he could do it.

The fight is a legacy builder with massive money potential. Regardless of how the fight is viewed by the majority of the public the fight will do wonders for both fighters. Should Hatton win it will do a lot more for him b/c PAC is the P4P King. But grabbing ANTHER TITLE and a LINEAR one at that will definitely highlight PAC's already tremendous career. THe money is just icing on the cake. I do agree PAC doesn't NEED Hatton for his legacy, but PAC is about being the best and having the best career possible. This is a good fight anyway you cut it. Is it a necessity for Pac...No...not at all but will this fight help PACs legacy and fatten his pockets? Absolutely!

    I disagree completely.

Hatton is the undisputed number 1 in the lww division and he is in the top 10 p4p.

That alone makes it worth more than any other fight at lw or lww except Marquez III, and that fight can still happen after the Hatton fight.

If Pac beats Hatton it helps his legacy a lot, especially if he does so in a more impressive fashion than PBF. Because he is still actually smaller than Hatton, would be doing it at Hatton's best weight class, it would officially make him the man at 140, and if he beats Hatton in a more impressive fashion than Floyd, it raises his legacy up even further.

And of course, Hatton being the biggest draw/money fight out there now next to PBF is just a minor detail.

Beating a great fighter like Ricky Hatton would be one of the best accomplishments of Manny Pacquiao's career - if he can actually do it. That, remains to be seen.

The way in which certain boxing fans have tried to degrade Hatton's abilities over the years has no bearing on reality. The kid is a top notch fighter and will go down in history regardless. For some, the respect will never be there - doesn't matter. They can keep picking fluffers like Paulie Malignaggi over him, and keep getting egg on their face. Even some of Hatton's fans think he's not the genine article. It's amusing..

The Pacquiao fight will be tough for both. Especially Manny.

Of course beating Hatton at 140 lbs has no meaning what so ever to Pacquiao.......

......now beating David Diaz at 135 lbs, had all the meaning in the world.......the boxing world rejoiced at such conquest!

When on earth is Pac going to stop taking on pretenders like Hatton?:nut:roll:

I vote this thread the ******* nuthug post of the newyear so far!

    UNBELIEVABLE!:nut:rofl
