Who'd have the better chance of winning: HOPKINS (v Hagler) or MAYWEATHER (v Sweet P)

I think I give Hopkins a better chance, the fight with Hagler would actually be a 50/50 fight IMO.

 

I think hopkins has a better chance. Whitaker's style would be so troublesome for floyd.

but i wouldnt say that floyd has no chance against whitaker, i think both would be very close. floyds lack of offense at WW would probably cause him to lose against whitaker, who is not the best guy to try and pot shot.

 

Hopkins over Hagler, certainly.

I just don't see a logical route towards a Mayweather win. I don't see any advantages in that fight. His best assets are neutralised by Pea's own defence and speed. Pea is far more active, and a quicker starter. Pea has a better more consistent jab, and is southpaw which I feel helps against Mayweather.

I can see Hopkins having a lot more success than Mayweather with his own work. Overall I feel Hagler just as the edge in adaptability that allows him to compete with Hopkins in his strongest disciplines, but I see Hagler's relentless approach in a fight he'd likely be the aggressor being hard for Bernard to outpoint in a battle of awesome chins.

 

Disagree. What advantages would Floyd have over Whitaker other than power? Whitaker does everything better than him IMO. Not saying he couldn't be competitive, but I doubt he wins.

 

Personally I don't think Hopkins beats Hagler, but I give him a very good shot. Hopkins is one of the best defensive fighters ever and would have a size/reach advantage over Hagler, I'd still favor the Marvelous one though.:good

 

Both would be very interesting. I'm not going to say they don't stand a chance, however as great as Hagler is I think that based on styles Hopkins seems to pair up much better against him than what Floyd does against Pernell.

 

The real question is, will Floyd take the fight?

 

Definitely Hopkins versus Hagler. This one's not even close.

In fact, I'd go so far to say that I'd give Mayweather a better chance of beating Hagler than beating Sweet Pea.

 

Same way Duran almost beat him and SRL did. By outboxing him. Hagler had serious problems with fighters that fought off the back foot and wouldnt trade with him. Bernard fits this perfectly. Throw in the reach advantage and Hagler faces a very uncomfortable situation.

Floyd is untested at 147 as of right now, and his decision to retire makes him an enigma at this weight. There are lots of questions, and few answers.

But Floyd would likely get crushed at middleweight as Hagler would throw him around and hit him wherever he could.

We're not talking about the Hagler that lost to SRL, but one of if not the best version available.

Against Sweet Pea, Floyd would have a chance because Sweet Pea may get robbed of the decision.

Considering that Floyd isn't an aggressive fighter though, I doubt it though.

 

Well, he retired instead of fighting Margarito. Is Margarito the most skilled welterweight of all time? No, but he's determined, big for the division, exciting, and would make for a difficult night for Floyd.

Furthermore, he retired when his star status was the brightest, and regardless of who he fought, he would make millions of dollars that he probably wouldn't have before his fight with De La Hoya.

So, if Floyd decided to retire when he was considered the PfP #1 fighter in the world, and at the peak of his money making career, what makes you think he would fight a risky fighter like Whitaker, who at the time he was fighting was underappreciated and didn't have a gigantic, PAYING fan base?

 

Pea would deal with Mayweather handily in my opinion. Hopkins has a very live chance at beating Hagler, so definitely Hopkins.

Hagler shined against come forward fighters and struggled against those that wouldnt.
