this would be floyds toughest fight, the people who say it'd be like the baldomir fight are ****ing clueless,to answer-no i dont think he could do a hopkins-pavlik,because margarito wouldnt become scared to throw punches from round 5 onwards like pavlik did.

Floyd would be a heavy favourite, box circles around Margo and then receive no credit for his masterful performance?...is that right?...................:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl
The stuff you guys come out with to justify the fact that Floyd would sooner enter the ring with 10 ebola sufferers than touch gloves with Margarito.

    No way.

To pull of a Hopkins- like performance he'd need power to keep Margarito at bay. He does NOT have power to even shake Margarito up for a second. He could win, but he'd have to run because the heat would be nothing short from a frying pan on his ass.

Yeah, you're probably right. You gotta use what God gave you to get the job done. Floyd is a very skilled fighter, but many feel his offensive game can be lacking. Recall when he was fighting De La Hoya, Oscar was noticeably slowing down in the later rounds, and even though Roger Mayweather emphatically yelled at Floyd to throw his hands, Floyd hesitated, resulting in a split decision fight that in many observers minds felt it could have gone either way.

Meanwhile, Manny Pac put on a grade A beatdown on De La Hoya, while not knocking him out, consistantly beating him to the punch, throwing numerous combinations, and eventually breaking Oscar down physically and mental stability, making him quit.

Floyd had the speed, seemingly the energy, and certainly the ability to take advantage of Oscar's fatigue, but he didn't. I wonder, what will he do if he cannot stay away from an aggressive fighter's attack? What if it is not a mauling fighter, but a tactical fighter, throwing punch after punch, until his opponent quits?

That's the question I'm really asking.

Does Floyd have it in him to do this?

There is no way in a million years that a fighter who comes in wide open squared up, plodding with slow hands, no jab and one-dimensional like Margo beats an elite defensive counter-puncher like PBF, who can adjust to all styles he's too good for that.:deal If this fight ever takes place people will once again respect the sweet science and why elite ATG defensive counter-punchers are stylistic nightmares for everyone.:deal
PBF by wide UD is the smart pick here.

But does Floyd have the ability, and the mindset to beat Margarito in a fight, rather than a boxing match?

First off next to Hopkins PBF is the most mentally tough fighter in the sport. When has he ever been taken off his game? How many fights were his opponents beaten before the left the dressing room? When has he ever looked like he wasn't 100% prepared for victory? His mental game is underrated and one of the biggest assets to his success.

He won't really need to fight Margo he can get in range and get back before Margo can get off. Margo is a really limited fighter who gets by with being very big for his weight class and has an iron chin that's it nothing special and that's why he can't succeed at higher weights. He has to set his feet in order to be effective and is slow as hell. PBF can stay on his bike for 12 rounds and skate to a wide UD win against him if he wants to and there would be little Margo could do to stop it. And after the fight people would be claiming he ran but in reality what he did was dish out a boxing lesson and expose how limited and plodding Margo really is.:deal

I too agree that Floyd could outbox Margarito by staying away from him, but does Mayweather have it in him to not only outbox Margarito, but decisively win a fight? I know he showed that he had the skill and the mindset against Corrales, maybe his greatest victory by maybe not the opponent, but the manner in which he won, but \can Mayweather bring it at this stage in his career?

That's exactly why I wished this bout was made.

Margarito would force Floyd to let his hands go, thus forcing him to look as spectacular as we all know Floyd can be. But for three minutes of every round for 12 rounds.

    It would be beautiful.

Floyd could not pull off a Hopkins like performance against Margarito. But, he could pull a Floyd, and that's all it would take to win. Floyd's run and [occasionally] hit then run some more style is well suited to beat Margarito, who is a bit on the slow side.

Very strong post, and with Floyd being forced to work harder than he has in his previous fights, then we will see his conditioning come into play, along with how good his hands and shoulder hold up which I dont think his hands will, Maragaritos chin IMO is the problem, if Floyd cant hurt Tony he is screwed.

Hmmm, no, not really...not today, not in a thousand years. Floyd would lose by demolition... This bout wouldn't go the distance... when Margo touches cry boy Floyd , and he will eventually, it's gonna be lights out for Mayweather... and btw, as always, I'm not a fan of Margarito, just give credit where it's due...
