his best weight was 122 imo. I pretty much agree with selfkill. & yes there were big problems in his prep before pac1.
He was definitely in his prime when Pac beat him. After the Pac fight, Barrera went on a streak of impressive wins over Ayala, Morales, etc. I clearly remember all the pre-fight hype. Barrera was at the top of the P4P ranking, he was concensus top 2 or 3. I was already a big Pac fan then and I did not feel good about this fight. I feel that Pac had nothing that Barrera hadn't seen before. I said that I hope him being a lefty will work wonders. I also said that if, by any miracle, he beat Barrera that he should be given all credits and all props, just like when Joe Frazier beat Muhammad Ali, or when Holyfield beat Tyson, etc. Turns out there are always idiots who will insist that Barrera was past prime, simply because he lost to Pac because if seems that is the only way Pac can beat Barrera - if he was past prime. atsch
seems like Barrera didn't get his licence to fight Pac until a couple of days before the fight.... etc, etc. I could tell by the ring walk something was wrong.
IMHO Barrera's prime in terms of both physical attribute and ring intelligence (i.e. the point of his career he was at his most effective) would be 2000-2005 roughly. He was raw earlier and defensively reckless. I think it was obvious he was starting to slip when he struggled with the limited Juarez.
He wasn't due to fight him. I think that in the second fight Juarez could hardly land a glove on him and Barrera's reaction at the bell said it all for me.
