Strictly speaking, Ali & Frazier are 60's fighters and had their best time during just that era.

I think that the 90s was an equaly talent laden era but that it didnt fulfill its potential because many of the big fights never took place.

If Tyson, Bowe, Holyfield and Lewis duked it out to produce a consensus No1 among them then that fighter would have had a prety good claim to be the No1 all time heavyweight.

Too many fights that should have happened didnt happen or happened too late.

I agree. We were so robbed of Bowe-Lewis. Lewis-Tyson (when it mattered)

That's why that era was not as good. Management of 90's guys couldn't get their guys to bounce back if they lost a fight. It always turned out to be rebuilding projects instead of just coping with a loss. The 70's guys just seemed to get right back in the ring quick and start fighting again pronto. The 90's guys would eventually get themselves back in the ring but it'd be 2nd and 3rd tier opponents for a few years.

The best guys of the 90's definitely on a par in terms of peak greatness. Overall depth of the division, no. Although there's not that big a gulf.

90's had more strength in depth, if you scrath away the surface of the 70's heavyweights most of the fighters were not up to much.

The 90s had more depth and better talent.

    Tyson,
    Holyfield,
    Lewis,
    Bowe,
    Mercer,
    Ruddock,
    Tua,
    Moorer,
    Golota,
    Morrison,
    Ibeabuchi

Those ten names are arguably win head to head match ups against

    Ali,
    Foreman,
    Frazier,
    Holmes,
    Norton,
    Shavers,
    Lyle,
    Quarry,
    Bonevena,
    Young,

The Supporting Cast for the 90s IMO outweigh the supporting Cast for the 70s. If the question was which era was better for boxing, then I could say the 70s because the major fights that needed to take place took place. But if the question asks if the 90s HW's had as much talent as the 70s, and I would have to say unequivocally yes.

sorry, i'm still here.holyfield is more over-rated than marciano and take his roids off him and he'd be worse.

First of all, Rocky Marciano is not overrated. With the **** the guy gets around here, you'd almost think he was underappreciated. Secondly, Holyfield may have used roids, but he certainly wasn't the only fighter in boxing to do it. In fact, he was often smaller than many of the men whom he faced, and still had to put forth the heart and courage to battle it out with them...
