New to boxing

  1. I've just started boxing again after about 3 years (although I was only going for about a year back then).

We box from 07:30-08:30 PM at my new club and I finish work at 04:15 PM and I'm always starving when I box. Do you think I should eat my dinner soon as I get home before boxing and then just have like a banana & some milk after boxing (don't really like protein shakes) or the other way round, banana before, dinner after? I'm 21, comfortable 54 KG but want to get fitter and I'm worried that eating dinner so late will make me put weight on.

Also I've been running about 4 miles before breakfast 5 days a week, is this enough to get me fit or should I be doing more?

    Thanks for any info guys.

    hey man!
good on you for starting up, I have similar working hours, What i try and do is have a pretty big lunch and when i get home have a smallish dinner with some slow releasing carbs before boxing then after boxing ill have a shake and some fruit, Id say one thing though, good for you too go running so early and all that but think of this in long term you havent been training for a while so relax on the running and the weight issue, think about your weight if you have a fight lined up..otherwise working on your skills and stamina is paramount to watching your weight...furtheremore if you are having late dinners and running early theres no problem...I personally hate waking up early to go running i do my cardio at my lunch breaks...but to each their own...good luck for the future mate.

It will take a year or two for to figure out what works for you. In general terms, the important thing is to put yourself on a schedule and stick to it. If you can eat, sleep and train at the same time every day, you will dramatically enhance your progress. However for most guys this is much easier to talk about than to put into practise.

yea and one more thing, fix yourself daily/weekly/monthly/yearly objectives it sounds obvious but sometimes its best breaking up ones ambition or else one runs straight into a wall, so many people think they can become champs without the hard work and only have one thing in mind being the best and fast....well there no better way to never become a champ or any good with that attitude, focus on small things, this week ill focus on my jab + footwork, work on it think about it, then put it into practice when sparring if it works good youve learnt something, if it hasnt keep working it till you get it right....ect....little by little one becomes big...or something to that effect...anyway those are my two cents,
    Cheers,
