In my honest opinion it is probably just as well that Wlad never met Ray Mercer at latter's peak. He had a spotty career, but at his best was a tank and a destroyer. Not the kind of fight Wlad would have survived, if a good form of a younger Mercer showed up. That's not a "hater" talking. It is my firm belief.

You're missing the point. Stoic was basing that Wlad's win over Mercer was somehow superior to Lewis based simply on the result, which I'm sure you'll agree is just plain stoopid. :nut

 

Seeing what Jesse Ferguson, old Larry Holmes and Damiani did to him, I am a firm believer that Wladimir would've fought his own fight comfortably against any Ray Mercer and won a UD.

 

Id like to see Haye get the win just to spark up the heavyweight division a bit.

 

I think Radar doesn't like Lewis being compared with Wlad and that's the only reason why he believes that someone who gave Lewis a tough fight is a definite Klitschko killer.

Mercer was good, Radar. But Wlad would have beaten him.

Thanks for proving my point. You cited all his worst bouts. Check some others against Morrison, Holyfield, and Lewis himself. Then read my post again. Prime Mercer was very inconsistent - but when on form he would have eaten a tentative fighter with a suspect chin like Klitschko for lunch.

 

You're talking to someone who has followed the sport for 35 years now. I have no such simplistic motive. My honest belief is that a prime, focused, fit form of Mercer destroys Wlad Klitschko. Vitali would be a whole different matter. That's all.

 

Well, I think he looked good because of styles. Lennox made him fight his fight, the later version of Lewis would've owned him with the jab. Holyfield is a war machine, so that fight suited Mercer well.

Morrison outboxed Mercer before getting tangled up on them ropes.

I don't think Mercer was special, he looked good when boxers fought him with four attributes alone, power, chin, stamina and heart.

Wladimir boxes him and wins a pretty clear decision, and that's not comparing Lennox with Wladimir, that's just saying Wladimir fights HIS own fight, just like Lewis takes home the vast majority of rounds if he fights smart.
