Lennox Lewis with his size, power, and ring smarts, could give any heavyweight trouble. He might have beaten all of them.
That being said, who do you think had the best chance of beating him?

For me, the first that comes to mind is Ali. A young Ali had mesmerizing speed and footwork, but might have been a bit small and lacked enough power to do significant damage. An older Ali (past 1971) was bigger and stronger, but less agile, and thus could have been more vulnerable to Lewis' shots. Either way, I think Ali gives him trouble.
Joe Louis could have been a problem for Lewis too I think.
In the end, I believe my best pick for beating Lennox is Larry Holmes. No size disadvantage here, one helluva jab, great footwork, and can really take a shot.

What do you guys think? :rasta

Ali, Louis, Liston, Tyson, Holmes are the guys with the best shot, in that order, with Tyson a 50.50 fight and Holmes a very, very slight underdog.

yeah lewis brings a very hard style to fight.

he is hardly ever outboxed nor is he ever truly outfought. only mercer gave him a proper goign on on the inside and that just made lewis comeback in the later part of th erounds.

this is why he is ranked so highly on heavywieght lists.

but i see ali not getting too involved with him and outboxing him and out hustling him. holmes again as you said would give a great performance, and i think holmes can handle lewis on the inside.

riddick bowe i think would of beaten him when they were suppose to meet. due to bowes bigger physique and inside abilty while being able to box aswell. giving lewis a very odd style match up, a guy who is the same hieght same attributes and same way of fighting.
also bowe was far more seasoned and lewis was more of a side one 1-2 ham and eggs fighter where late ropn he learned his trade and could really use his attributes. also his uppercut wasnt in full usage yet so he wouldnt be able to open up bowes simple ear muff defence.

i like the look of liston tho. big jab likes to trade and has decent skills to boot, i think he would give a very good performance and the only guy who i feel can beat up lennox in the real sense of the word if bruno could keep lewis off and give some arguement back then it makes sense.

louis i think gets tanked and stopped in the later rounds. frazier again i think would be out huslted and possibly stopped. in a tua style confrontation but with frazier being busier and not looking for the one shot. but a right uppercut could put frazier into some major trouble.

    ali
    liston
    holmes
    possibly tyson.

Prime Tyson for me, but in my book Prime Tyson has the best chance of defeating any great HW who ever lived. Shame his fire only burned bright for a few years.

I'd give Holmes a decent shot of beating Lewis but it'd be 70-30 in Lewis's favour whereas Prime Tyson would be 50-50. Prime Tyson V Prime Ali is around 60-40 in Ali's favour.

Didnt Vitali almost beat him? Lets not make LL indestructible now. Hes one of my favorite fighters but I think Ali would have given him fits, Alis 6'4 with a long reach. Old Evander gave him war Tyson in his prime would have troubled him. Remember that he was Koed cold twice (no excuses) and these are lesser fighters than some of the greats were hypothetically matching him up with.

I dont think its fair to go back to Louis era because those guys are just way too small, there are a few modern era fighters that could have beaten Lennox. Of course Lennox can beat them as well.

I would move Holmes to the front of that list, tied with a late 60's Cassius Clay.

The shot Holmes is most vulnerable to is the overhand right, Lewis's money punch.

Do you think he can jab with Lewis?

No, Vitali did better than Lewis in the first half of a fight he lost on a bloody stoppage, I don't think you can say he "nearly beat" Lennox Lewis".

I don't think there are many ATG's who fought at HW who have less chance. I'd say Patterson has a better chance than Marciano.
