Nah it's still a competitive division. Even if Juan Diaz loses and JMM moves up and chases bigger fights, Juan Diaz against any of these guys is a good fight, chuck Barrera in and it'll still be interesting.

For the biggest fights now, I think we'll have to look to SBW. Who knows, JMM and Juan Diaz might stay at LW? Diaz might beat Marquez?

Anything can happen, and the LW division is still sparkling, with or without Pac and Nate. Funeka is still there too. Prescott also.

    Well, any mix of-

Angulo, Kirkland, Julio, Ishe Smith, Mora, Andy Lee (or is he a MW?) maybe even Mayorga if he still intends on fighting again. These are exciting fights, and I wouldn't mind chucking in Ryan Rhodes as well.

I'd leave Williams and Martinez out of it, I'd say they're already amongst the top of the division.

Andy is a MW I believe. John Duddy is expected to bounce between 154 and 160 as well. Don't forget Ronald Hearns. Of course you can't forget JCC Jr either.

They certainly are tops of the division (Williams, Martinez)...but neither guy is #1. The #1 right now is probably Vernon Forest. This tournament should decide who takes the throne from Forrest.

Hearns and Chavez JR would be good fights. Again, fights where you just don't know what's going to happen, if you chuck those guys into the mix makes it even more interesting.

It's Duddy that's switching between the two! Thanks. Throw him in, even more interesting.

Shame inter-promotionary wrangling means this will never happen

Yeah the ability to MAKE something like this is nearly impossible I believe. It's awful. If I could play fantasy promoter for a minute, a 154 lb tournament would look a bit like this given the talent of Joel Julio, Ronald Hearns, Ishe Smith, Alfredo Angulo, James Kirkland, Sergio Martinez, Sergio Mora and Ricardo Mayorga:

    Ricardo Mayorga vs Alfredo Angulo
    Ronald Hearns vs Sergio Mora
    James Kirkland vs Ishe Smith
    Joel Julio vs Sergio Martinez

You match each "prospect" (although Martinez is surely stepping farther away from prospect status) with a veteran fighter and let the cards fall as they may.

It isn't perfect, but still a hell of a card put together by GBP.

^well there is no perfection, lol yeah the 154 bracket would be very nice to see and very hard to pull off ... promotionally at least

all this Tourney talk reminds me of when Don King several years back did a "final 4" Middleweight Tournament to unify the belts (final was Hopkins vs Trinidad)

it would be nice to see a Super Welter tourney with #1 ranking to an organization ... or even a vacant belt (IBO, NABF, ??) going to the winner

    Quoted for the ****ing truth.

If Valero proves me wrong and makes me eat my crow, then so be it. But I just don't see what's so special about this guy.

people in my area say he's back in training. may be preparing for a bout in Chicago either on 3/27 or sometime in April.

he really should be in this tournament, being the last one to hold the WBC title before Pacquiao and all.
