I think Hatton is in with a very good chance, pac man is not as good as he is being made out to be.We had the same things said about Cotto and then Margarito and they both came unstuck.Hatton is fighting in a division he has never looked like losing in and his only defeat is against the very best boxer and in a higher weight class.I think Ricky can get some good rounds in early get some momentum going and stop Pac late.
PAC will use his jab a lot too, especially countering Hatton's right hand, while leaning to the left and then follow up with a straight left hand or more importantly a roundhouse left to the body. I think the body work done by Pac, especially in that sequence will be one of the most important factors in the fight. I'm in the belief that Hatton's body is untested, but when I have seen his opponents go to it, they have had success. Urango and Castillo both appeared to momentarily hurt Hatton when they went to his body, but both lacked the agility to move out of the way or the handspeed to fire off a combination before Hatton could clinch. Most of Hatton's opponents have trouble going to his body or were reluctant to do so because of Hatton's short stature and his reputation as a viscious infighter.
For all the talk about closing the distance, I'd think we were talking about Ivan Calderon here. Pacman will be closing the distance. Thats all he does. And Hatton will be waiting. Morales and Marquez both hurt Pacman, Ricky hits MUCH harder than both of 'em.
If Hatton waits, he will be picked apart. Counterpunching is not a significant part of Hatton's strategy. He is mostly a come foward aggressive mauler who tries to fire the first shot. It takes years to develop the kind of counterpunching of the type that Marquez uses if you want to use that as an example of a guy who waits. Hatton isn't that kind of fighter. Ricky does have more of a thudding punch than Marquez, but Marquez's punches are more explosive and accurate. Ivan Calderon is not a good example because it is more of a Mayweather type of strategy, minus the power of course. Pac isn't just a one dimensional come foward and stay on your opponent and make him move type of fighter, but an in and out sharp punching boxer. Hatton is simply too slow and lacks the fundamentals necessary to deal with an agile, explosive, straight punching dynamo like Pac. Pac will dicate the fight and pound hard shots to Hatton's body that Hatton will likely come in unprepared for no matter how much he trains because he will simply not be accustomed to a fighter of Manny's magnitude. Hopefully Valero puts in some good work to Hatton's body as a sparring partener because in my experience that is a place where Hatton is very vulnerable to. In fact I'll say it right now, Hatton has a hard time taking shots the body.
F_ck you bernie boy!!!! I wonder what will you say if HATTON losses on May 2... I know I know... HATTON is SHOT!!!!
Congrats for the almost perfect insight . . . the only thing wrong here is Hatton didn't last till round 7. :good
