for me qawi-holyfield...i know it's been called the greatest c-weight fight and that makes it a hard sell as "underrated"...but it had it all-stylistic difference, non-stop action, two HOF, brutal combat, skill everything except a KO...a 15 round war which belongs as a ATG fight not just a great c-weight fight. if c-weights weren't so undervalued (maybe that's where this really ties in), if this had been a HW or LHW fight it'd be called a classic...
Have not seen all the ones mentioned but Calzaghe vs. Kessler is a great call. Not so much a war, but great action and the way Calz. made the adjusments and took over against a high level performer in Kellser, who was doing very well in the first 4 rounds, was very impressive. One of my favorites from years back is Holyfield vs. Dokes. If you have not seen it, check it out. Chavez vs. Rosario was another great one, classic Chavez grinding down a very capable opponent who later win championships. Good call on Saad vs. Lopez. All of Saad's were great.
Dorin-Balbi I Saad vs. virtually everyone that challenged him for the LH title I Galindez vs. Kates I Chan Hee Park vs. Guty Espadas Soo Hwan-Hong vs. Hector Carrasquilla Chacon-Boza-Edwards II Taylor-Anaya Lee-LocCicero Ohba-Amores Etc. Etc.
DLH vs Trinidad was technical and one-sided. Ali vs Terrell was a one-sided drubbing. Mayweather vs DLH was close, but uneventful for most part. Jones vs Toney was one-sided. Hamed vs Kelley was awesome but regarded as such.
So what, all of these fights except for the Hamed vs Kelley one were technical and the performence of the winner was great but not appreciated as such even though operating on a very high technical level. Most people tend to favor wars instead of technically refined fighters and fights.
A great fight to me can only be competitive, otherwise it is merely a great performance or showcase of talent. Not a great fight. The guy from Setanta Sports was saying how Margarito/Mosley was a FOTY candidate when it clearly could not have been given how one-sided it turned out to be.
I understand what you are saying, but I have read in the media etc. that some of these fights I mentioned such as DLH vs Trinidad or Mayweather vs DLH were borefests, while they were clearly not and I enjoyed these matches very much. Of course some of them were one-sided but I enjoy how a DLH outclassed Trinidad or the way Ali moved fighting Terrell. Do you understand what I mean?
Norton Vs Holmes was always great to watch. Out of the list i'd say Cotto Vs Torres since torres is heading to welter i can't wait for the 2 to meet again
I understand what you mean. These are fights you love because they showcase a fighters talent. When you watch such artistry, it is very rarely boring. This thread however is discussing great competitive fights.
mahyar monshipour vs somsak sithchatchawal allthough ive never seen arguello vs escalera 2 or ayala vs tapia
