You even have to ask what world class is, have you ever watched a boxing match other than Mundine?

Ok Ashley, please tell us who Mundine has ever stopped who was world class. Don't say Sam Soliman because he was never world class.

Mundine not fighting Kessler last year certainly comes across that he ducked him as he was his mandatory. However, if Mundine did fight Kessler there would have been two outcomes:

Win - defend and try unify belts against relatively low profile fighters in Bute, Inkin, Froch, etc. The Kessler win in isolation would be a major triumph however it would be against a Kessler who just lost to Calzaghe. At mid 2008, Calzaghe already went up to LHW sp there was no chance of fighting him.

Lose - decrease of profile drammatically and even if he lost by SD or MD, would still generate a perception as a middle-tier fighter.

By avoiding Kessler / dropping to middleweight, whichever way you see it, Mundine can be really set to achieve big things now. He has had three tune up bouts in a gradual decrease of weight, against limited opposition.
Given Mundine had zero chance in fighting Sturm last year as he had a rematch with Randy Griffin and fight with his mandatory Sylvester, this approach in reflection makes sense.

Therefore, if you look it on face value, Anthony Mundine is now in quite a good position now. He's had 18 months since his major eye injury and has two p4p names in Abraham and Pavlik at the top of the middleweight tree and is mandatory for the other major title holder in Sturm.

A fight with Geale would be a positive for both fighters, Geale for experience and Mundine for title acclaim and tune up for Sturm.

Its a fair question.....what is world class....top 5 in the world each division...or would you say top 10 out of 1200 fighters are world class....what is it?

Oh and yes I get about 20 PPV each year and watch most FOX nights....I was not happy today that PAV or Cotto missed PPV...even though the fights are one sided I still would have got them.

Win - Become recognised as the best fighter at 168lbs, setting up a massive pay day with a rubber match against Kessler, or even a fight with Jermain Taylor.

Lose - Earn the respect of all fans by getting in and having a go.

    Win/Win for mine...

Point taken, I wanted to see him take the Kessler fight too.

However, I remember him saying in the past he wanted to be a three division champ and if he beat Kessler he would unlikely travel down to middleweight in the future after such a win, so if he was ever going to travel down to middle, he had to do it then imo.

Also, when it comes to the divisions elite, Middleweight beats Super Middle at the moment and in prestige - a middleweight championship beats a supermiddle championship.

Middleweight is nowhere near as stacked as Super. However, yes the belt has more of a history to it. I'd settle for Anthony being a legit 1 time champ more than anything else...
