It is hard to tell, but he looks lean. Look at his head neck in the Peter fights, hes way slimmer than that.
easily my favourite fighter of all time but he's slurring and is shot to bits as a fighter, just look at his last couple of fights.
It is only slightly deterioated. The added weight and many cigars also make it sound different. Anyway, without boxing Toney would have ended probably in jail, so that is a price that you have to pay with over 80 fights, no big deal. Anyway, the thread is not about Toney's speech which is obviously not shockingly bad at all. I look forward for Toney to fight a big name in his next fight.
Well, he fought a good fight against Rahman II. Oquendo gives everyone fits, Toney won a close one. I agree that this is not the Toney of the Holyfield but he is ny no means shot.
I still do not understand why anyone can seriously argue that Toney is not an ATG. Toney has wins over : McCallum (HOF), Nunn (HOF), Reggie Johnson, Iran Barkley (HOF), Prince charles Williams, Tim Littles, Washington, Jirov, Holyfield... Toney captured titles at 160, 168 and 190 by always beating the Top man in each division. Who has captured a title at 160 and then at 190? Then he went to heavyweight and competes there regularly while being being undersized. he also has a solid record over there and some good outings. Who has done that? I mean you guys act like PBF is a first ballot ATG. Look at Toney, he has the better resume, longivity and accomplishments things no one has done. I am pretty sure that in a decade or two Toney's status will be much more appreciated.
Saying toney is top 15 is very generous right now. He hasn't looked good in more than a couple of years (peter 1) and given his age, training habbits, and the amount of punishment he's already taken, it's very unlikely that Toney will ever regain the form when he was competing well against the likes of Peter (peter 1) and still relevant ruiz and rahman (rahman/toney 1). I agree that if he could beat Thompson or Arreola or even look good in a sd loss or something, than he's right back in the pile below the klits. Doing that is unlikely though.
The interview is actually 2 weeks old, Toney has definetely not ballooned up. I hope he gets a big fight pretty soon.
For a guy who shows little discipline in between fights, Toney looks surprisingly fit in that interview. Sure, his speech is slightly deteriotated compared to his younger days, but hey, 80+ pro fights inevitably leave their mark. I still think that Toney can give anybody a tough fight except for the Klitschko's. Like other posters already mentioned, a fight with either Haye or Arreola would prove be an intriguing affair at this point.
