Of course if they reach 9, and then wave it off at the same time that they would be saying 10... that means that they didn't beat the count of 10.:good

I honestly don't think that it carries any more prestige in the boxing world. If a ref knows that the fight has to end, he stops it immediately. The quicker the fight is waved off, the sooner medical personnel can check the well being of the fighter. This is why a ref will just wave if off immediately if he knows that he is stopping the fight whether or not the fighter makes it back to his feet before 10.

This isn't like back in the day when a fighter could immediately hit his opponent rising from the canvas, and the hurt fighter could be revived in his corner with the use of smelling salts to send him back out there to fight some more. Health and safety have become a bit more important over the years.

Diaz dropped pretty fukking hard, he would have beat the count, or at least tried.

thats one thing and what i said is another.

either way, I know that a ref has to count to 10 for the fight to be ruled a KO so I am not arguing the opposite even though in certain cases that rule has been broken. But its bull**** for a ref to stop the fight and for that fight to be a TKO when the fighter is on the ground, because if the ref is stopping it then he likely would not ahve beaten the count anyways.

Yes, Mosley vs Mayorga is an example. I don't remember the ref counting Mayorga out, but Shane is credited with a KO, at least on boxrec.
