Why would Hatton become p4p #1 by beating Pac?

    I highly disagree with that.

There is no way that a top 10 p4p guy can beat the number 1, 1 weight class above where he was WBC champion and be below him.

If the guy was some unknown then yeah fair enough, but Hatton is a legit world class guy.

Hatton would be at 3 for me.

Doesnt pray on smaller targets? Have you forgot his stunning wins over Tony Pep and Dennis Petersen? Both those guys were career featherweights.

The whole point of p4p is that a fighter is the outstanding champion of any weight in terms of skills and overall ability. Usually this fighter will have moved up in weight and beaten men naturally bigger than himself... two prime examples of this are Henry Armstrong and Sugar ray Robinson.
When Robinson lost to Joey Maxim for the light heavy title no one considered Maxim suddenly the best boxer in the world p4p!. Maxim had proved himself the stronger man but he was a natural lightheavy while Robinson was a pumped up middleweight. Manny is a natural feathweight fighting a natural lightwelterweight, this size advantage means that even if ricky wins he cant claim the p4p title.

I'll say one thing, if Ricky wins then it will be a great win and I will be pleased for british boxing, but lets not start calling him the best p4p or the best ever British fighter etc... it willl simply be a great win over a great but naturally smaller fighter...

Hahaha! **** me!! You're a characer Scurla!! Any ****ing chance to get a dig in at Ricky, eh?

Haha! "have you forgotten Pep and Peterson?". Yeah! You're absolutely right! Those two fights that had to happen for Ricky to move up a level and get some notice from outside the UK (especially Pep) are complete proof that he purposely targets smaller fighters!

Hehe. Sorry, it looks so stupid when someone is posting loads of "haha's" in a post but I honestly am chuckling to myself here. You have made some amazing anti-Hatton posts in your time, mate!

    Crazy.

Incorrect, P4P lists are not a representation of the most "skilled" fighter. It is about who is hypothtically the BEST FIGHTER if they fought at the same weight class.

We could have a Top 10 "Skilled Boxers", Top 10 "Punchers" and Top 10 "Brawlers" lists but we don't, it's about overall effectiveness in the ring. This is the reason we had guys like Margarito and Hatton in the list. Both brawlers who wouldn't be considered to have much boxing skill, but definietely EFFECTIVE inside the ring.

My biggest issue with P4P lists has always been how the smaller weight classes simply DO NOT get the recognition and respect they deserve. And it's not right we have such a bias towards the heavier divisions. It's only now since we have PPV worthy fighters like Vic that bring excitement, that people are now noticing the little guys.

Some people (most likely through ignorance and lack of exposure) are ranking fighters due to their popularity and over-exposure. I guarantee you if Hatton or Pavlik fought in the smaller weight classes people would barely be considering them as P4P fighters. The Ring Magazine seem to treat P4P lists as a friggin popularity contest.

I never said Hatton would be P4P #1 if he wins. All I said is that if Pac loses he is NOT the P4P #1 fighter in the World.

P4P is the silliest thing in Boxing. It is all fantasy and conjecture. It is essentially fake.
