I think overall he hasnt looked his best in the Casa and Diaz fights..He managed to end them impressively but had to work for it. Not near the kind of dominance he had at feather..nor the kind of performances he had at 130 against Pac and MAB. Better fighters, both pretty close to their primes yet I think he looked better. I dont think 135 is his best weight..but I cant see his age helping the situation either.
I don't think so, he looked fatigued against Diaz and in spots, just didn't have the same alert posture that he always had at FW. He just seems a little more on-point, alert and ready to fire at FW.
As the above poster said, age might have a little somethign to do with that. He could turn the corner at anytime, he's very old for an elite little man.
At this stage yes. He won't need to dehydrate a lot of weight to keep his muscles up. He climbs at the ring 142-144 during Fight Night. So 135 is ok. 140 is not good yet, because fighters there tend to rehydrate at the least of 148+. If he can go at 147-149 then no need to debate about going to jr.welterweight.
I consider Marquez WBC, WBA, WBO and IBO champ, as well as linear. His 2 fights at 135 have been amazing as he has tamed a slick southpaw and tenacious youngster. This could be Marquezs best weight. His power is looking silly at the weight as he is doing what others couldn't.
He was fantastic in the 2nd Pac fight. Yes, Pac won that fight but it could had been a win for JMM if not for the KD in the 3rd rd.
Don't take me wrong, I'm not trying to deminish JMM, but I'd like to see react to somebody with ko power on 135. Juan Diaz and Joel Casamayor are not recognized as big punchers. Who do you think? Maybe Valero or even Pac on 135. After this kind of tests we will know how JMM adapts to this weight.
