the ufc main event was a dud too, despite their horrible announce team's attempts to hype it. with the exception of lennox lewis, hbo's flawed crew is still leaps above rogan and the dreadful bill goldberg. and ufc's product placement is so pathetic and desperate, they'd probably take 25 cents to mention my company. there so fukn cheap and greedy.
Ive noticed hbo along with golden boy has been trying to put together decent if not pretty damn good fights as of late, and they are just turning out horrible, or just unsatisfying (horrible, see medina just quit against two minutes of lopez, or bad, cintron getting a gift draw against martinez too name a few). I dunno, boxing is going nowhere (as in its staying around) but i cant explain why these good match ups are turning sour all the time.
HBO have had a good year. The reason people are disappointed tonight was because it was an amazing card on paper, failed expectations more than anything.
It has been a great year for boxing so far. Last night was a little bit of a let down but nothing to get worked up over. The Guerrero cut was disappointing, what can you do. The second round stoppage for Ortiz may have been a little pre-mature but we probably would have seen one more round at the most. You have to admit it makes you want to watch Ortiz again - this kid is something special. And the Kirkland fight was pretty exciting. It was no display of great boxing skill but it was a decent fight. Boxing is in excellent shape.
The Guerrero fight just started getting exciting when the ref stopped it. It was kind of confusing as Robert said he can't see, but the doctor should've made the decision, and at that point, I think they should've let the fight go on for a bit, and see what the corner can do about it. I felt Guerrero was a bit shaky at the end of the 1st, and Yordan landed some good punches in the 2nd too, and I can't help but feel that Guerrero wanted out. Ortiz delivered big, I see GBP having problems finding the right opponents for him to take him to a higher level. He just destroys them. But he still needs a 12 rounds experience vs. someone who can take a punch. Maybe a bit risky, but I'd make Ortiz-Witter in 6 months. Ngoudjo would be a nice test too. I expect big things from him by the end of the year - but he needs the kind of oppoents who don't make him look good but give the experience he need. Kirkland was equally impressive and disappointing. He walked through everything Julio threw, put on bigtime pressure and using his phyisical advantage, he broke Joel down. But I think Julio was a bit undertrained here, Kirkland's hand and footspeed was average, and my God, he's extremely easy to hit. Put him there with a defensively sound counter-puncher, and he gets outboxed silly. Put him there vs. anyone with an aggressive style or defensive problems, he deliveres. It'll be very hard to get a title without facing technically much more sound counter-punchers like Martinez, Dzinziruk or Santos. I think Angulo outworks him BTW, or lands crazy amount of body punches and brakes him down. Alltogether, it was a disappointing night, but at least it sounded excellent on paper, and HBO did the right thing to accept these fights.
Knowing that there's a delay should set off alarm bells. Do you not think there's better places to avoid the result of a fight than a boxing forum.atsch What sort of thing do you think you'll find on here?
Yeah it sucked. Only the Kirkland fight was decent. I had high hopes for this card. Ortiz is already a force at 140 I would love to see him fight the Bradley-Holt winner.
