Thats interesting, I did watch that Lengendary nights about 4 years ago on HBO, but I guess I just missed or forgot about that part. My only questionis, why didn't he answer steele when he asked him if he was alright? Taylor just looked out of it, and wasn't ready to continue fighting IMO.

I see what your saying, but Taylor was obviously seriously hurt and probably unable to defend himself if the fight continued, wether there was 3 seconds left in the round or 2 minutes left in the round. One well placed punch can do serious dangerous to someone, thats why they say "It's the punch you dont see coming that effects you the most".

I think that more ref.'s have an impact during the duration of the fight then necessarily at the end. There are a lot of fights that don't have controversial endings but the ref. had as big a negative impact as all of the fights that have already been mentioned. Some examples being Jay Nady in the RJJ/Ruiz fight. Also the ref.'s behaviour in the Bute/Andrade fight wasn't as bad at the end as it was with the incessant holding that he allowed Bute to get away with. If he ref.'s the fight fairly and warns and the deducts points from Bute when he should have Bute would have been either disqualified or KO'd by the 8th or 9th round.

That is just a couple examples of ref.'s effecting a fight more during the middle than necessarily the end.

I don't agree, but some people would say that Joe Cortez in the Hatton/Mayweather fight is a good example also.

Personally, I'd of stopped Chavez-Taylor eariler, so it wouldn't of got to that point.

So if you had let Taylor finish and win the fight, how do you think the aftermath would have been historically with their legacies?

I see, still very interesting. You really cant blame Steele either way, I could see both sides arguement on that one.

It doesn't matter what the reason was for Taylor not to respond... the point is that he didn't respond. The fight ends at that point and nothing else matters. Had RS allowed the fight to continue and Taylor (who already had to be hospitalized after the fight) got brutally smashed with another right hand and died... the entire world would have blamed him for allowing the fight to continue. The fighter don't respond, the fight is over. What was he supposed to do... just let Taylor stand there until the round ended shielding him from Chavez? Guide a non-responsive fighter back into the fight? Hell no... he did the right thing and stopped the fight.

You could possibly make an arguement for stopping the Holmes Snipes fight after Larry stumbled into the ringpost when he got up from the knockdown. Hindsight would suggest it was wrong but ive seen similar stoppages, id suggest if it wasnt someone expected to win it may have been stopped
