I have a question for Tito nuthuggers regarding Oscar De La Hoya..

You mentioned in the other thread that his opponents had 92 more wins than losses. The actual figure is 298 more wins than losses. Hagler's opponents had about a 65 % winning rate.


Re: Oscar/Floyd, I was refuting Jack's claim that Shane and Floyd held decisive wins over Oscar. Neither does. That distinction belongs (uniquely)
to the much bigger Bernard.

 

The only way Oscar "softened" Pernell up was by winning a debatable decision and causing Whitaker to probably get more depressed and do more yola, further adding to his age to abuse of his body.

 

How hard is it to accept the amount of damage that Trinidad placed on the opponents he faced. Campas/Carr/Mayorga/Vargas they all were DESTROYED.

David Reid got his Retina DETACHED after fighting Trinidad and had to retire soon after! You don't see DLH Retiring peoples careers and adding miles to their jaws like Tito! nope no Retinas detached by the hands of Oscar!

 

There were various factors in Vargas's decline, IMO.

Vargas had back injuries and ballooned up in weight between fights. He took a lot of punishment in general. Even before Trinidad, he was involved in some grueling fights with Wright and Quartey. In a span of 3 years, he had his rough fights with Wright, Ike, Tito, and Oscar where he took a lot of punishment.

Similar to Chavez-Taylor I, the loss to Trinidad probably did the most damage, but in general Vargas (and Taylor) took too many shots.

the fact is that Tito really beat those guys up...career changing beatdowns. Also Oscar said that he would never fight Vargas...but After the beating Vargas received against Tito, Oscar changed his mind. Makes you think:think

 

Oscar always changes his mind about who he will fight.

"Why should I fight Mosley? You guys will say I fought another little guy"- Oscar after the Tito fight at the press conference.

Nine months later Oscar fights Mosley.

"I will never fight Vargas because I don't want him making that much money because of me"

Oscar fights Nando in 2002.

"I won't fight Floyd Jr. out of respect for his father"

Oscar fought Floyd a few months ago.

 

the difference is that he flat out said he would never give Vargas a fight...he wasn't so clear about Shane.
