Because Duran has one name on his resume that neither Leonard, Hagler or Hearns have. Hagler and Hearns could never beat this guy.
:good iv just finished reading that its the only book iv ever read all the way thru it was a gd read.
there was never a lightwight like him, in fact i don't think there was and is any fighter quite like him, one of the greatest ever, met his son and daughter in miami beach boxing gym.
I remember him for the genius he showed us in fights like leonard 1, palomino, de jesus 2 and 3 etc, he is possibly the second best fighter i have seen on film, by far and away the most impressive fighter i've seen on the inside and also the way he seamlessly combined defence with offense was brilliant. In short he was great
From what I`ve seen of him on film, no one in todays era could live with him. He is definetly among the best fighters ever.:bbb
Duran was a natural LW, who was 12 years into his brilliant and very active career by the time he moved up to face the best the world had to offer at WW and above, and he did so successfully for the next decade, including an amazing win over the 2nd greatest WW of all time. It has nothing to do with Duran being overrated, it has to do with you not having a clue what you're talking about.
I remember him as the most natural fighter to ever step in the ring, the guy was born to fight. People who talk about Mike Tyson being intimdating never looked into the eyes of Roberto Duran. He had every skill that could be taught to a boxer, but to take things a stage further, he had that intensity that every boxer dreams of, but never achieve. When SRL turns around and calls Duran 'the best', you know that we are talking about one of the finest fighters of all time. Duran - Legend!
The best money I ever spent was getting his career set on DVD...He truly epitomizes everything I think a boxer should be.
