I wanna hear your opinion this era of boxing is. Ok back in the 70's we had the deadlinest and greatest heavyweights argueably of all time, and the fabulous 4 (duran, hearns, hagler, leonard). But right now take a look at this era.

    History makers
    1) floyd mayweather = greatest superfeather weight of all time
    2) calzaghe = greatest supermiddle weight of all time

    great champions
Pavlik, pacman, marquez, dawson, adamek, calzaghe, hatton, cotto, williams the list goes on. And how many of these guys do u see in the hall of fame in the future?

    Prospects
this is basically booming, there are too many to name so i dont know where to start.

I think the top ten P4P fighter 2 years ago, were P4P on of the best that ever exisited buh thats just my opinion. thats why when I hear boxing is dying it makes me laugh

btw is lightweight the best its ever been?

I think when you would put Pavlik on the list of great champions it shows that the era isn't that great.

There aren't as many stars or great rivalries as before IMO.

I don't believe so as far as the HW division is concerned...But at some of the lighter wieghts, where much of histories most exciting boxing comes from, there are some good fighters out there.

It's picked up in the last couple of years, but the middle years of the decade were awful.

Heavyweights are poor, middleweight arn't anything special, the lower weights are brilliant, some of the best of all time. I think we've got alot of fighters who just starting to look like greats in this era, pacquiao/marquez both starting to prove it, moving up and fighting great fighters. Maybe the next decade may be a great era of boxing, with cotto coming back but still relativly new champ, mosley can prove how great he is now in a great division, see how Vazquez does, list goes on, but the future may be bright for boxing....except heavyweight....

    I'm not sure.

The sport is more global than it used to be which I think has raised the average level of talent. But, there aren't any huge starts that transcend the sport. So, I don't think the highest level of talent is as good as it used to be.

However, especially in comparison to the 90's, I think the overall level of fights being made is better. The 90's were especially frustrating to me because it just seemed that the fights you wanted to see didn't get made or dragged on for years and only got made after the participants had slipped a little.

As far as fighters go, we are in a good era but as far as promoters go, hell no!

I would say yes. There's a lot of talent in this era even though the heavyweight division is weak. The lower weight class has picked up all the actions and exciting fights.

Good observation. as far as talent goes there are some here that are comprable to years and eras past...But it does not seem like the fights we need are being made, and/or Boxers themselves are not pushing their promoters to make the best fights happen. So in a talent aspect this is not a bad era, as far as the best fights coming to fruition, we are in a 20+ year stagnation of not having the best possible fights occur! Again good call!

of course its a great era. I think its better than the 90's. espically with the youngsters we got coming up, I really think 2010 to 2020 is going to be one if not the best decade boxing ever seen.
