Will Vitali/Gomez be like Wlad/Ibragimov?

Agreed, Gomez aint as good at Heavyweight as some are giving him credit for. So outboxed a 42 yearold McCall, and a slow unskilled fighter in Virchis. Vitali is a huge step up in competition, and he will not be able to handle Vitali's power. He's going to hurt him early and finish him by mid by the middle rounds. The fight will not be competitive and it will end with Vitali knocking out Gomez cold like Sam Peter knockout victim Yanqui Diaz did to him some years back.

 

Vitali does not like gomez and therefore Vitali will hurt gomez.

 

i can see why you might think that way, especially not having seen gomez fight. in my opinion, gomez vastly oversells his speed advantage and vitali is greatly underappreciated for his ability to cut off the ring using both his punches and his oversized body. gomez was pretty quick as a cruiser, but the unnatural bulking-up to heavyweight nullified his speed and completely obstructed the flexibility that once let him throw punches from sharp angles. accordingly, i think gomez is going to get jammed up and hurt early--no matter the size of the ring. after that, i imagine, vitali will beat his arms, body, shoulders by trying to maul his way in to capitalize. gomez has reasonably quick hands and i expect that advantage to take him into the middle rounds...during which vitali's rough investments will slow gomez down enough to get him into trouble again. i expect gomez to quit on the stool or stay down when he might be able to get up after he takes six or seven rounds of the grizzly bear handling that vitali will put him through. unless vitali gets old overnight, as they say, or sustains an injury in the fight, i expect it to go very much like a less severe, less brutal version of klitschko v. danny williams.

 

Vitali owned sam peter...sam peter was rated way higher than gomez...enough said

 

you do know that peter QUIT AFTER THE 9TH and had both eyes damn near swollen shut and you think vitali didnt hurt him??? he quit b/c everyone knew (including peter) that he was getting kod in the 10 and possibly seriously hurt..

do u give wlad the benifit of the doubt for getting kod a few years ago?? NO...

 

I am kind of surprised to hear someone say Vitali didn't hurt Peter. Peter was hurt several times in the middle rounds, especially, if memory serves, in the 8th, when the accumulation of punishment got to him, his eyes started to close and he couldn't see the hooks coming. I give Peter credit for staying on his feet, but I do not think that because Vitali didn't put Peter on his back, that says anything about his chances of flooring Gomez. Gomez and Peter are very, very different fighters. For one, Peter is a natural, if not small-ish, heavy, Gomez is a natural cruiser--especially since the limit was raised to 200 pounds. That alone raises the chances of him getting ko'd and the opposition Gomez has faced at heavy so far does nothing to tell me he can maintain movement and clarity of function when in deep...Virchis? Mccall? That does nothing to make Vitali seem any less like a lion against a mouse here. Forgiving Vlad Klitschko his knockout losses, I think, is only possible because he has made smart, consistent improvements in his defensives stances when attacking and retreating. Vlad circles now, away from shots, not back and forth until he's jammed against the ropes, as was the case in his knockout losses. Because we have seen that from him...we can forgive it, but, I still would call him a knockout risk against a big puncher. Gomez has demonstrated that he can be knocked out early by hard shots, Vitali has shown only that his body has certain vulnerabilities (cuts against Lewis, shoulder against Byrd, numerous, various back, leg and other training injuries) that could stop him. So, accordingly, to my mind, Gomez only has a chance if Klitschko's rotator cuff goes again...we'll see, but aside from that Vitali seems a lock.

 

More competitive? Maybe, but it might not last as long.

I have watched both fighters. Vitali can bust his shots through the guard, work the body, and like Carlos Monzon does not let up on his attack.

 

I think it is going to be a more competitive fight than others think, but I think Vitali will win by mid-late round tko.

I think Vitali will be able to hit Gomez because even though he is a southpaw, he is a BIG southpaw meaning Vitali can mix it up.

 

I've been looking at some Gomez fights and I'm not impressed. While he's good at sneaking in some shots here and there... He's not all that quick, he doesn't put combos together, his footwork is not impressive. He also seems to completely lack power.
With his height and strength. Vitali should be able to handle Gomez rather easily. The only way I see Gomez winning is if Vitali gets some sort of freak injury.

 

Have you ever seen Chris Byrd vs. Davarrl "Touch of Sleep" Williamson? That was by far the worst boxing match I ever saw.

Sorry, but if vitali can take shots from Lennox, and Sanders, both atg power, no way does this ***** affect him.. Only chance is if he takes vitali deep, and , MAYBE tires him out

 

Agreed, I actually tried the Klitschko-Iggy fight to get my dad back into boxing ,he was a big fan yrs ago but the Bryd-Williams sparring match was the final straw during King's reign of terror. He complained the whole time during the K-Iggy fight and thought they were faking it.. So the next fight he happens to see is Valuev -Holyfield....he vowed to not watch it again but I think Vitali is a different beast and he's there to fight and take the guy out, not like his Wlad who can be gun shy at times.

 

Would be kind of interesting, I think. Gomez likes to step back when someone goes on the offensive. I don't think Gomez is one to stand there like Peter and take a beating. But, if Vitali lands that right hand to Gomez's noggin, sayonara.
