Many of Jones fans say he lost to Tarver and Johnson because he went down too far in weight too fast. Well wouldn't a fight with Johnson now settle if it was the weight?

He did lose too much weight.

Not 25lbs of muscle like a lot of people say but more like 10-15lbs.

He weighed 200lbs against Ruiz (He weighed in at 193 and Ruiz at a much lower weight than normal) Mackie even said that the weight was off, and the guy doing the weight said he did it quick and didn't really try to get it spot on.

Roy Jones in a video after the weigh in got on a scale with just light sweat pants on and weighed 201.

So clearly he could cut lets say 15lbs of water. He still would need to go another 10lbs of muscle.

Clearly, he lost too much muscle weight too fast.

I tend to believe it for the first Tarver fight...what he did to his body at his age is not good I imagine.

This is a man who used roids just to fill out to light heavy consistently...now after another probable roid binge he has to shave like 15 pounds of muscle off his frame when he was in his 30's.
I remember a few interviews leading up to the fight where he said he was basically having to fast and diet like he never had before..it said it made him angry..but it appeared it made him look weak.

But the weight issue isnt an excuse..he shouldnt have done that to himself.

Sure it was probably part of it. Some fighters just age overnight and whether it be the weight issue or something else, that's the case here.

If it did it finished him forever, and was not a temporary thing.

roy jones fighting ANYONE now doesn't prove anything. fights with hopkins, johnson, calzaghe, tarver or anyone else would prove only what we already know all too well, jones is spent, shot and endangering himself needlessly after a career in which he was the very best in the game for a long while and then fell from that peak rather abruptly (and completely).

Johnson is a tough fighter at 175. He would give Any version of Roy a good fight. If they fought today, he'd probably knock Roy out again. Dropping so much weight may have affected for the first Tarver fight, but he looked like the Roy of old until he got ktfo'd in the second Tarver fight.

If he is sticking to fighting he should face Johnson again to put an end into that chapter of his career before quiting.

If he doesn't intend to fight Johnson again he should retire.

Nah he didn't look like the Roy of old. If he did he would not have gotten caught like that.

I never bought that whole excuse. When you look at his overall work since then I think it's more of a clear case of a fighter getting old and finding some way to excuse his poor performance, but in reality his age was just beginning to catch up with him against Tarver in their 1st encounter... and of course gradually he slipped further and further in ability as the years went on.

He looked like the Roy of old until he got hit. It's not like Roy was never hit before. He was just never knocked out. Tarver has a bit more power than Lou del Valle.

It was always a BS excuse. That's why it took 2-3 fights afterward for people to come up with it.

And yes, he should go after Glen again, just like other fighters who suffer embarrassing upset losses are expected to avenge them (or at least try to). No reason for him to be excused where other fighters aren't.
