I've training hard, eating good, and lifting heavy all year and I need to figure out where I fit in by May 9th. Really before, because the weigh-in is the same day. I'm 5'11" 160 right and I'm not sure I'd be able to make it down to 147. Make no mistake I'm not fat, I've been eating more to gain weight and make some strength gains in addition to my fight training. So what do you pros recommend I do?
Youve been eating to gain weight?? putting on muscle is fine, but not so much if you actually intend on losing so much weight. Totally agree with the last poster....ask the advice of a good trainer who can give you the once over so he can advise you on what he thinks is a reasonable weight for you to fight at this stage for you. I remember back in the day I tried to make 147 again when I had a walking around weight of 160. I got down to it without too much trouble but on the day I was weak, slower reflexes, and had so much less power it was surprising. After that adventure I just ate normally, trained and lifted some. And as a side note I also cut out the long runs - they made me too skinny.
In USA theres a 152 class.. Should be perfect seen as your 5'11 and its only 8 pounds to lose which seems doable considering youve been trying to put on weight.
id just keep training normally , eating right , and fight at watever weight your healthy at, lose too much you'll feel drained n weak.
Fight at a weightclass where you feel comfortable and strong. Trying to 'fit' into a weightclass is a mugs game. As a poster above noted, he felt very weak and sluggish when he tried to make 147. I would certainly advise against dropping 13lbs to fit into a weightclass, as this is an extremely specialised area, and it is very easy to **** yourself up by doing so. Under no circumstances ahould you be looking at dropping this kind of weight without an experienced trainer guiding you and monitoring your performance on a daily basis. As another poster mentioned above, get a trainer who is familiar with you to guide you. Asking a question like this on a forum will bear no benefits for you as we have no idea of your build, history, current level of ability, current training, current diet etc. There are far to many variables to be able to give you an accurate answer over a forum.
I've been talking with my trainer and he said I just move up to 160 indefintely, but I'm not sure how that would work out. If I were to move down to 152 how long would it take to lost 8 pounds, a month?
If you've been putting on weight by eating and lifting then losing won't be so hard. Add in some long cardio sessions. 45 min-1 hour runs or cycling for an hour or so. But like others have said, just get in the best shape you can and see where your body ends up. You haven't had a fight yet have you? So you would just be getting a match bout, which they don't use the weight classes for anyway. For your first several bouts your should really concentrate on the basics and getting comfortable in the ring and getting as much experience as possible. Worry about weight later.
Alright that makes things much easier. I'll reincorporate more long distance runs and cut some calories just in case
