he would have got alot more respect had he been a fighter in the early and mid 90's imagine the fights that could have been made, Foreman Klitschko, Bowe Klitschko, prime lewis Klitschko (shorter work for Lenny) Tyson Holyfield moorer, he defently is a good fighter but will not get the credit he deserves because of the lack of opposition in his era, not his fault but then again its not ours either, shitty for him but hey what can you do?
yep, he looked really good. Gomez has one solid chin. That straight right would have decapitated most mortal men.
I thought he looked very average against a big cruiserweight who was only ever really a spoiler. Vitaly was boxing open mouthed from past the half way mark his jab was pawing and his right didnt seem to have much steam in it .He connected solidly quite a few times before Gomez reacted and needed several shots to down his man ,a pretty average peformance ,imo.I will wait and see what odds are available on Haye, then might have a bet.
Honestly, I thought V.K.'s management SUCKED prior to 2003 / Lewis......... Christ sake, he is "5" yrs older than his bro Wladimir... WTF was the deal with HBO exposing Wladimir and neglecting Vitali in the yrs of 2000 thru 2002?? In terms of HBO / Showtime, V.K. was a non-factor as a fighter before 2003; yet Wladimir was being pumped up.... WTF?? By late 2004, I knew goddamn well that V.K. was a bad-ass melon farmer...... V.K. is NOT as technical or as graceful as Wladimir, however, he is bigger, stronger, and tougher than his younger bro..... I like the "K" bros. all the way.... But Vitali is my favorite..... MR.BILL
At age 37, against the slick but powder-puff Gomez, Klitschko appeared slower then normal because of Gomez' quick hands and slick defensive skills...... Prior dudes like "Williams and Peter" aren't exactly considered speed demons... So, naturally Klit would seem quicker against them type of massive / bulky dudes..... Cheers..... MR.BILL
I think you're overrating Gomez skills. I didn't see any slickness. I saw a guy walking in straight with his hands up and not moving his head. He was also overweight.
The 230 pounds was a bad move.. Gomez would've been better off at 212.... LOOK! I never cared for Gomez at all...... BUT! The goddamn WBC insisted he get his shot...... Well, I'm pretty certain that cable TV in the states will run like hell the next time Gomez is slated to headline a fight card....:deal MR.BILL
Honestly, I think Wlad would have blasted Gomez out sooner with his superior handspeed. Gomez didn't have enough movement to give Wlad trouble, but then again you never know with Wlad. If anything Vitali is a better "fighter" than Wlad if not more gifted.
WBC: Vitali best P4P! Greatest puncher ever at heavyweight This content is protected Photo: Pavel Terekhov The WBC has declared reigning heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko to be the greatest puncher ever in the heavyweight division. Official WBC Statement: [Vitali] Klitschko proved that he is the best fighter in the world nowadays, pound for pound, after defeating Juan Carlos Gomez who had a record of 35 knockouts in 44 wins and only 1 loss. Klitschko has outdone all other fighters, no matter what division they belong to. The heavyweight world champion is the only one who can claim he is the greatest champion in the world of boxing as nobody can defeat him. With Vitali´s extraordinary wins, in fights that have been stunning to world fans, showing absolute control and power, our king of the heavyweights has silenced many mouths and media that had unfairly attacked him without any evidence, and been disrespectful to him, considering the great class he is showing. Jose Sulaiman, president of our organization, stated today that Klitschko is the pride the WBC as well as he is the pride of world boxing. Vitlai Klitschkos record is now: 37 wins; 36 of them by knockout, and including his last win by KO, his percentage in this specialty went up to 97.2%, fact after which Klitschko is placed as the greatest puncher ever in the heavyweight division. I disagree. I think he might have some of the heaviest hands at heavy, but he is not the greatest puncher. Wlad is a more explosive puncher than Vitali if not as heavy handed. Wlad puts people to sleep. Vitali's slow punches come down like boulders, but they break you down rather than knock you out cold. I wouldn't put Vitali in the same category as people like Louis, Wlad or Tyson. And maybe Haye...... But yeah, Vitali does have some clubbing punches, but he is definitely not the most EXPLOSIVE puncher. He just doesn't have the speed.
Heaviest hands prolly do belong to "Foreman & Vitali Klitschko." Best / Sharpest punches prolly belong to "Louis & Tyson." Most wicked one-shot power might be from dudes like "Baer & Liston." Okay, Marciano, as well..... MR.BILL
