Last night was the first time I remember seeing this John Molina: 5' 10", 72" reach, 135 lbs, 16-0, but hasn't fought anything with a heartbeat. However, he looks like he might be worth keeping an eye on for awhile. Thoughts?
I've seen him fight before, he gets great leverage on his shots, decent technique, but has a little trouble (like most prospects) integrating offense and defense. I really don't like how his opponent was able to walk right in at the beginning, a more physical opponent would have caused him major grief. However, he looks like he a good scrap so he should be fun to watch.
He struggled with this kid. I guess because this kid came in for a war, and a war he got. But, he has produced some exciting fights so far. He doesn't have good defense, though. When he steps up in comp, he will have problems.
Apparently my union dues are going to sponser him. Seems like a decent fighter, long and lean, throws a pretty good uppercut, who knows hard to say but I think he has tallent.
Personally, I think he looks like ****. He gets attention because he has the same name as a past great boxer, but every thing about him is average, and he's been extremely protected. He's been on ESPN and Shobox before, so there's more availability of his fights.
Ya know -- I just watched the first few rounds of Kelly Pavlik vs Ross Thompson the other day. If at that time you would have told me that this skinny white boy would be the next middleweight champ, I would have said "you're full of ****." I think you're being a little hard on this kid.
Possibly, but even more so than other prospects, he's being matched against guys to make him look good, and he STILL doesn't look that good. He throws a lot of punches. He throws them slow, he doesn't have defense, he doesn't have power. He reminds me of Enrique Ornelas.
Once he figured out that distance=win, he looked like a decent prospect. Problem is he allowed a lesser skilled fighter to bully and ***** him out in round 1. If he's going to be anything more than a journeyman, he's GOT to get tougher in that sort of situationn. Overall I'd give it a C performance. Lots of good **** to like but with plenty of room for improvement.
What's his amature background? That has a lot to do with development, and I did not here anything about that.
I was more impressed by Javier Molina, who also fought on FNF last night in his pro debut, immediately after John Molina's fight.
I will tell if im impresed with this kid if he is matched with a guy thesame size as him, noa Ivan Calderon kind of oponet with no skills.
He looked impressive as well. The guy he was facing was a relative nothing (a 36 yr old dude making his pro debut) but still he showed a lot of tools (Molina did) and looked sharp.
Was beaten badly by unknown Russian kid (from Team Titov it seems) in the gym... He is really not that good when under the pressure...
