Although limited with skill the man is a true warrior and for this he gets my upmost respect.

He fought Mark Potter in 2000, after Williams disloacted his right shoulder (his stronger arm) he fought near enough one handed until he KOd Potter with a huge left uppercut.

In his fight in 2004 with Vitali Klitscko he was clearly over matched the whole fight and was down 4 times en-route to being stopped in the 8th but he could quite easily have given up long before then!

Last year against Konstatin Airich he was up against it all, deducted a point in the 2nd, received two standing 8 counts in the 3rd (WTF), was counted in the fourth after a slip and was deducted another in the 5th for hitting after the break. He had been wobbled a few times too. In the sixth Williams gets Airich in trouble and the bell rings to end the round early with 1:41 gone in the round, in the seventh with the odds hugely against him by this time the towel comes in from the Airich corner! (interestingly its was Airichs Promoter who threw in the towel not the cornermen)

Conclusion, Danny Williams is a warrior!

The warrior gets stretched out by Sosnowski.

Even Frans Botha tells him to straighten his **** up :D

But yeah, he's got a heart.

    Yeah,
Danny was/is thoroughly entertaining and a true Boxer...defines the word contender....hungry, tough and crowd pleasing. Hope to see him in action again soon. Who knows, maybe Sam Peter will take him on in his comeback. Would be a big fight in the U.K.

How does a man who dislocated his shoulder in a fight and still go on to knock the other guy out not be called a warrior.?:think

Nah I have great respect for Dannys talent and his heart.

When hes on his game, he's a hard nut to crack.

He's got questionable psyche though, the guy can lose to the worst of bums on any given night

Peter vs Williams would be great.

I'd pick Williams to beat Peter.

sadly, mosy the guys with no big promotional contract, no hype, no legions of fans that will fight through anything, hoping against the odds to pull out victory in the 11th hour to propel themselves beyond opponent status and get enough of a streak going to get some serious looks. they take fights on short notice, in other guy's home towns, out of their weight class and give the favorite a rough go every step of the way because, all too often, there is no tomorrow for these guys...just more short notice fights they are bound to lose. in this way, danny williams and guys like him couldn't (and shouldn't) be fighters if they didn't have heart and toughness to spare. if these guys quit on the stool, it is hard for them to even get sanctioned and cleared.

vitali came from a notable military family in the former soviet union in which there was a tradition of being groomed for athletic glories and a gene pool that favored athleticism. the amateur pedigree in both and kickboxing, the prestige of entering the pro ranks as an immediate fan interest in his native ukraine...all these things tell a guy to preserve himself, retire if he gets hurt to save his career...because there is a tomorrow for such guys.

mass culture takes the pressure off heroes to perform because they are meant to embody an impossible ideal...so people have to cheat logic to squeeze them into such a classification. conversely, die hards who have been in the same trenches, carried the same water, know the difference demand the best of reality, not the ultimate fantasy sold as reality.

the fantasy the public enjoys is that vitali is the indestructible giant big bear older brother of the vulnerable but more handsome and personable and stylistically attractive vladimir. it's a good narrative for a sports mini-dynasty.

the reality is that vitali, on night against byrd, quit on the stool because he knew he'd get a second crack at invading the international rankings. he didn't risk injury for a fight that did not have the world's eye on it. in the lewis fight, in which the world was watching, vitali went all out and toughted it out at the right time. smart business, but, and i think any die hard would agree, not something that calls to mind the best of the game.
