    Sylvia vs Couture...
Again...Couture is a ufc living legend & a guy who's used to fight in both divisions (lhw & hw) a guy who's universally known amongst mma fans for his solid gameplans & wrestling.....Not only that , Couture used to train the big guy...They used to be sparring partners...you know what that means right ? That he had a lot of time studying his opponent. (and the opposite is also true But! big difference is...Couture is undeniably way more skilled).

It took Randy 5 full rounds to finish a guy who's quite vulnerable on the ground. Fedor did it in a matter of seconds... The only other guys who came close were Arlovski & Mir ( in other words , OTHER HW FIGHTERS )

Guys who naturally fight in this weight class.

Well theres a fantastic example of a LHW who cut through the UFC HW division. Captain America himself. Nevertheless, Randy couldnt **** on Anderson or Machida.

There's certain stages of mediocrity... Obviously Tim Sylvia isn't ****ing Giant Silva (if you know what i mean). And when a guy is that big...No matter how "bad" he's supposed to be...He'll always have a major advantage. Especially in mma... (personally i think Mercer would kill him in boxing though...) But in mma , these big guys have all the advantages in the world.

Just like your previously mentioned example Bob Sapp - how about Hong Man Choi? Outweighed Fedor by what - 150lbs? UFC HWs have an upper limit of 250/260. If AS/LM didnt have to cut weight, at most Anderson/Machida would be outweighed by round about 30lbs

You think Fedor can beat guys 100lbs above his natural weight, yet P4P masters like
Lyoto and Anderson couldnt dispatch guys at top 30lbs above their weight? Take a ****ing reality check.

I really cant be arsed disecting the rest of this crap any longer. You strike me as someone who has strong opinions, and really wants to get them out. And this is probably a good forum to express yourself - its dead, you wont find anyone challenging your opinions. And im sure a few hopeless strays like Grievsey will come along and applaud you simply for writing such a lengthy piece, even if it is completely flawed.

    "Ab".

You could argue two sides, on one hand fighting a guy like Lesnar, who cuts weight to make 265, I wouldn't give them much chance, I mean Couture is a great fighter, but Brock was just too much.
On the other hand you've got a guy like Fedor who could probably make 205, destroying much larger fighters like 6'4 Arlovski or 6'8 Sylvia, or Choi.
Unless a big name fight against Fedor came up, if I was a top LHW, I'd stay LHW, since the weight class is p4p the best in MMA.

I think some of the LHW's could probably play it safe and win decsions over some of the top HW's, but would you really want to see Machida run from Lesnar for 5 rounds?
Wanderlei vs. Hunt was a badass fight, Wandy took it to him.

I wouldn't underestimate some of the lt heavyweights. Remember Wanderlei Silva has fought heavyweights in pride during those grand prix tournament and has defeated a some of them. Including fujita who is very tough. Not even ken shamrock can stop him and he landed a lot of power shots in their fight.

Boxingcar is a very good poster here but he is not speaking sense.

Tell me, if you mention a fighters loss years ago and that fighter has improved. Does it still make sense to go back to that fight and hold it against that fighter? Would Chonan defeat Silva now? You answer that.

This guy is bringing up the Greco fight. Are you kidding?

Now tell me how Boxingcar makes sense?

I don't see no difference. Machida uses the same modus operandi in all his ****ing fights. (and it's working).
He had no problems beating the likes of Franklin & Bonnar (prior to his fight against Greco). He had no problems finishing Mcdonald. All these fighters share one thing in common. They're more or less..about the same size.

As soon as Machida was confronted to a bigger guy (greco) , he started struggling. Struggling against a one dimensional kickboxer , even on the ground. Pretty much like fedor was against Hunt. (Hunt was also way heavier but unlike Greco , he still had better ground defense & offense and at least fedor finished him...Unlike Machida)

    Threadstarter posted the following:

    Is this a joke ?

Tell me Chimba , do you seriously believe that a 190 lbs guy (anderson) would steamroll through the entire hw division ? Cause that's what threadstarter is clearly saying...He's not even insinuating it. He's saying it loud and clear:

Am i missing something here ? Shouldn't it be the other way around ?
Also , are we talking about mw & lhw bulking up to fit the hw norm ? ...If so , this also reminds me that the so called P4P argument is just plain stupid.

one of the biggest problems with the P4P idea of blowing up a 150 or 190 or 205 pound guy to 230 or 250 pounds ... he'd get slower and less agile because of the extra weight he has to move. Strength goes up with cross section, weight goes up with volume ... ie weight increases faster than strength as size increases.

Or are we talking about smaller guys fighting in some sort of open weight competition ? What makes you guys think that a guy who's latest performance was more than questionable (against an inconsistent Patrick Cote) , would magically wreck the hw division ? against better , bigger & faster opponents ?

Has machida really improved ? How so ? why ? wasn't he the same guy (he and rashad) who couldn't finish a "has been" ? (Tito Ortiz)...Or is everyone willing to change their tune about Tito ? is Tito a top # 3 LHW then ?

Look first of all, nothing is certain in MMA, no one is unbeatable. Im not following the TSs arguments here. Im isolating Machidas chances.

First Ive already said youre a very good poster but seem to have been so fixated on the Machida debate that it has clouded your logic.

Machida has the same style, no one argues that! Any style, it can be honed and improved. Lyoto certainly is not worse than 4 years ago.

Next experience, people do get better at their job with experience..whether an Accountant, a Doctor, a Baseball Player or an MMA fighter.

Another thing and this is key, fighters can add to their repertoire,
Do you know who BJ Penn is? He's 170 fat!. He took Machida down when they fought. Have you seen anyone take Machida down lately? Can BJ take Lyoto down now? Didnt GSP improve? He pretty much has the same style when he started.

Then you argue about opponents size, First of all Bonnar is huge. But I'll let that pass. But how about Tito? Perhaps the biggest LHW in history. He didnt even smell a takedown. Why? maybe because Lyotos movement or distance. Im not going to argue why he couldnt take him down, that as different argument altogether. But you get my point.

Bottom line, Lyoto can give anyone problems. Againt HWs he would have the speed advantage and that is key. Am I insunuating he manhandles and dominates heavyweights??? no. What Im saying that anything can happen in MMA, and if I will give anyone a chance of giving HWs problems, I'll take that chances with Lyoto. The guys been hit 4 times in 2 years for ****s sake. Hes that good!

Brock is immense. Surely if he jumped on them he'd literally beat them into submission.

Im not saying anything "load and clear". Im simply puting it out there. IMO Machida and Anderson (Rampage maybe not) WOULD beat the vast majority of UFC HWs. Dont come on and try and twist my words to try and make yourself look good.

there's a reason why there's such a thing as weight divisions
