What does everyone make of Mikes new movie, i found it good for Mike to vent some of his honest truths surrounding his career and personal life.. I also found it very sad... Mike appeared quite depressed but serenely reflective... what y'all say?
Here's what Steve Lott says about some of the "truths" "As the former assistant manager of Mike Tyson I was shocked at the lies and fabrications Mike told in this movie. I was asked to screen this documentary by ESPN which owns the rights to most of the various Tyson fight videos used in the movie. I was more interested in what Mike had to say. The lies he told were: 1. He was always an addict 2. He was always an alcoholic 3. He always had demons 4. Managers Jacobs and Cayton signed him when he was underage 5. Managers Jacobs and Cayton were slave masters. It is obvious that Mike's new manager, Harlan Werner, is just as devious as Robin Givens, Don King and Shelly Finkel, the people responsible for Mike going from being the world's most popular athlete (1987 European AP poll) to the bum of the century. In this film Mike completely ignores the period, 1985-1988. when he was a super hero with original managers Bill Cayton and Jim Jacobs. During that time he was the darling of corporate America as evidenced by his being hired to do network TV commercials for Pepsi Cola, Nintendo Video and Kodak Film. Not enough - he was hired by the New York City Police Department, the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Administration to do PSA's. The Police and FBI do not usually hire people to act as role models who are addicts or who have demons. In this film Mike, when asked about Robin Givens, simply said he was too young to get married. He must have forgotten that he has already gone on record that she got him to marry him by saying she was pregnant when she never was."
just saw the movie have to say i thought it was danm good, very well put together and good to hear new information, like he whipped don kings ass
I really didn't find it that good. The Mike Tyson Beyond the Glory is a lot better. This one just shows some thoughts and short reflections of Mike about some events.
I liked it but I did miss hearing other people's side of the story. Ive heard Mike come out with a few dubious statements before and I do wonder which of the ones in the documentary stretched the truth a little. I find it hard to believe he kicked Don Kings arse and nobody has heard of that before. Surely King would have taken Mike for every penny he had after something like that? Front page news. It would have been nice to hear from Teddy Atlas and Kevin Rooney. 7/10 for me. I think I prefer the Beyond The Glory documentary.
lol. I don't have enough posts to PM you, thunder, or else I would.. I very much would like to see this film! : (
I loved the effects when he was fighting where the punches where sound enhanced or something, i thought it was a great film. links Mike Tyson - Chronicles http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4HLAHPZE Mike Tyson - Beyond the Glory http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XXVS8T15 Mike Tyson - Biography http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GJ4DQU19 Mike Tyson - Fallen Champ http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O64R82Y1 Mike Vs Tyson http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RW7YVMWY Mike Tyson - People's Champ http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HEN8RYBG Mike Tyson - Untold Story http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S1SZ54AB Mike Tyson - Sports Century http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BZTCIO2U Mike Tyson - The Right Stuff http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WV8SUFPP ESPN Special boxing - Mike Tyson http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G5VLFTDJ
A must see for Boxing fans. If you didn't know before, you get an appreciation for why Tyson turned out the way he is. The parts about the Holyfield fights were the highlight IMO? I just wonder why in a one-sided telling of the Tyson story, he/the makers didn't try to discredit Desiree Washington, who in Mike's and many other people's opinion is a liar?
