Oscar was P4P for a similar number of years. But this isn't about P4P or accomplishment, just plain old resume. Who beat the better fighters.

I meant P4P universally acnowledged as the best .

    Oscar was a top 10 p4p.

he was a more marketable guy than Jones for Sure (thats Roys fault for being a non media freindly athlete...something he must regret.

OH...one more WOrld Champ to add to Jones list u missed out

    JULIO GONZALEZ(WBO light heavy)

    Thats Oscar 15 champs

    Roy 14 Champs

I would say the only great ATG Oscar has beaten was Julio cezar chavez.

I would say Jones has Toney, Hopkins,Mcullum (2 of those were around there prime)

Oscar also lost all his defining fights....Trinidad, Mosley,Hopkins, Floyd(wont count Pacman because Oscar was obviously shot to peices)

I seems to find away to bllw his big fights....I would say Oscar has always found away to blow his major fights. He also had disiputable wins in his peak years. Sturm, Quartey

Oscar is a legendary figure in boxing because of his overall charisma, good looks...and excellenty managed career.

Btu for me he falls behing the true GREATs of the ring....I put him there with a Tommy hearns in terms of greatness but behind.....Leanard, Jones, Mayweather from recent years

Roy was untouchable (literally) in his prime. There were similarities between prime Roy and prime Ali. Their relexes defied conventional boxing wisdom. They put on a show and made good to very very very good fighters look pedestrian.

Jesus look what Roy did to James Toney. Oscar has NEVER beaten someone of that caliber. Arguably if he would have won the Tito fight and one of the Mosley fights it could be a more reasonable comparison. Oscar was never really outclassed. And made some great showings. But Roy Jones outclassed a prime James Toney. That's not supposed to happen. I know it's only one fight but Oscar never came close to a marquee performance like that against a fighter of James Toney's caliber.

I hope ROy Hangs up soon...a symptom of a shot fighter isnt only his punch resistance,...(which i contribute to weight loss), its an inability to pull the trigger.

In the Calzaghe fight/Trinidad/Hanshaw he tended to lay on the ropes let the guys hammer away without retaliating.

I started seeing the nasty habit of sitting on the ropes in the RUIZ fight...

Whitaker is an ATG as well, who ranks higher than McCullum. And both McCullum and Hopkins were definetly not prime when Roy beat them (same with Whitaker and Chavez for Oscar of course). But still very good wins, no doubt. Also, De La Hoya didn't lose against Trinidad, he got robbed, same with the 2nd Mosley fight (which was even more blatant IMO). The fight with Mayweather was in no way a "defining fight", Oscar was the best part of a decade past prime, and had been semi-retired since the Hopkins defeat. 'The World Awaits' was a circus. Defining fights for Oscar would be Chavez, Whitaker, Quartey and Tito.

Roy has always used the ropes. Look at the Toney fight.

I think we all agree that Roy's win over James Toney was better than anything on Oscar's resume. But in terms of "calibre", Whitaker is as much an ATG as Toney, if not more. Same with Chavez. The only difference is that neither of those two were in their prime when Oscar beat them, whereas Toney was.

But IMO, Oscar's resume has a lot more depth, whereas Roy has the single best victories, over a smaller number of very good/great fighters. There are similarities between Roy and Ali, but many differences as well. Ali faced much better competition, over a longer period of time.

I dis agree Hopkins was not prime when he fought Jones...Jones definately wasnt then...

All I would say is Joens Hopkins was not an event like it would have been a few years after.

But they were still stars. Its like Saying Salavador Sanchez beat a green Azumah Nelson...he still beat nelson!

De La Hoyas wins over Whitaker was disputed...and whitaker was way past it

Bernard Hopkins was not in his prime in 1993. No way. Most of Hopkins best wins and performances came after Trinidad, 2001-2005 - that was when Hopkins was in his prime. You're the only person I've ever heard say that Hopkins was prime in 1993.

Who did Hopkins beat between 1993-2000, that compares to who he beat between 2001-2008?

You say, "Whitaker was way past it", and sure, plenty of Oscar haters say the exact same thing. Yeah, Whitaker was past his absolute best, but he hadn't lost a fight for ten years, and SURELY the great performance against Oscar, a P4P elite, clearly showed that Whitaker was still an excellent fighter and nothing like shot, or "way past it".

I actually think you could score Trinidad-De La Hoya a draw. Although I do believe Oscar won it. But I actually think the 2nd fight with Mosley was a much bigger robbery, as Oscar swept most of the rounds and fought hard for the full 12.
