Reid was much more ruined that Vargas. Vargas managed to beat some pretty solid guys like Joval, Castelliajo, Rivera, while but up really good efforts against De La Hoya, Mosely, and even Majorga. Reid went from near elite to shot to piece within the span of twelve rounds. Same with Meldrick Taylor, who beat Aaron Davis (argueably his most meaningful win) after Chavez, while beating Glenwood Brown and others. Bottom line, Reid is my choice.
Chavez seems to be the popular pick for most, but being from Philly and watching Meldrick alot, I don't believe so. He still fought at a high level after this winning another championship in a jump in weight class beat the unbeaten davis in a beautiful performance...the best of his carear IMHO! It was when he tried a 2nd jump up in weight, that was not in his best intrest (except for his largest financial opportunity, since Chavez was not looking to move up in weight to meet him)..He met Terrible Terry Norris..and from then on he was never the same. I know the majority will still say Chavez ruined him...i just don't believe it!
