No. Rocky Marciano could not have sensibly trimmed down to 175 pounds. It would have been much easier for him to come in over 200 pounds than under 176...in my opinion.

Marciano could've made 175 prior to to 1951...... However, at 175, Marciano would be a limp dick there....... 184 was pretty goddamn lean and mean for Marciano....... Marciano later filled out in the low 190s, as he was for Don "The ****" Cockell in 1955................ Cheerio.......

with today's draining methods its rather easy to shed 10-15 lbs and then put them right back on.

its not like he would have walked into the ring at 175, just 5 minutes prior to the weigh in and then right back to the nutrients

Chris byrd got back down to 175 and was dead. Yes he used to be 160 at the start of his career. But he fought at a higher weight than Marciano (around 210 pounds) and is 6'1" and faster and elusive then Rock.

i think that Rocky could have got down to 175 and while obviously it would have effected him against heavys, i doubt, very seriously, that there are many, if any, light heavys who would have withstood his onslaught at 175. In any case, it would have never happened, because he would be champion (or at least in the mix) at heavy in any era, and there would be zero chance of him wasting his time at Cruiserweight or Light heavyweight, pursuing a lesser title. Even if there were a great lower weight champion, they would have to step up to fight him, he wouldnt need to sweat down.

...hell....i never thought he was all that great at 185!! going down to 175 would have drained him of his stamina, which was his greatest asset. at 175 charles would have sliced him to pieces...

    I agree.

    A 175 Charles would slice a 175 Marciano open.

    Not comfortably at all.

I've seen people on here who claim that in the modern era he could of made super-middle, which I find very, very hard to believe.

He committed the sin of being white.

If you look at Rocky, he really doesn't look like he has much room to cut. I can't really see him bulking to Tyson proportions either, so I see him as a cruiserweight.

But not a 185lb Rocky Marciano. Remember how much trouble Charles had with swarmers elmer ray and pat valentino in his prime, they pressured him landed on him and got results. However I will say this, I think Charles in his prime is a bad stylistical matchup for rock and could take one off him by decision, but no way could charles repeat that feat in a rematch. I am very firm that marciano at his best wins 2 out of 3 vs charles at his best.

    Charles W 15 unanimous Marciano

    Marciano KO 8 Charles

    Marciano TKO 13 Charles

It would go something like that

    prime for prime

    Jaclem,

Looks like your flip flopping on me. I thought strength was his greatest assett. Didn't Ezzard say he was stronger than Nino?

,,,suzie...well, i suppose you're right. charles said that rocky was not the hardest puncher he'd ever faced, but the strongest fighter. that includes big nino and everybody else. but at 175 using that strength in his usual way of bulling his opponent around would start to drain him as the fight went on, and affect his stamina.

but...yeah....i agree that if we picked just one aspect that he might lose at that weight it would be strength so i agree with you and stand corrected.

and ezzard would slice him up...

The Rock worked his ass off to get himself down to 189 pounds......when he retired
in April of 1956...he was over 200 pounds...

Possibly, but it wouldn't have done him any good.Fighters like Moore and Johnson would've beaten him.
