Jaws take off those rose coloured glasses of yours. Its quite clear in the pictures marciano has the exact same bone structure of these guys...all of them short but very hulk like bodies and very big boned....sure tua and tyson are heavier and have bigger tale of the tape measurements but if rocky got a modern training regime his measurements would be around theres too. tyson has 19 inch neck sure but if marciano used weights he might too..

....If marciano didnt run 15 miles a day and altered his training regime to do more weight training and have better nutrition supplements he would add more mass properly. Most of marcianos training regime was designed too lose weight and he def lost some muscle mass doing it.

Let me ask you jaws, since your the expert, do you think rocky with modern benefits can weigh in at 205lb and still be in top shape today?

I see that your a big tyson fan from your posts, I happened to be one too.

Marciano weighed over 200lb in his amatuer fights in his early twenties, take a look at the video of him and patterson look at how much naturally bigger rock is than floyd. sure tyson was 217lb trimmed down, but rocky marciano was defintlley a very trimmed down 190lb. You say tyson didnt use much weights? I call bull**** on that.

lets face it james toney weighed 217lb vs holyfield, he fought very well and looked in half decent shape. there is no reason why marciano cant come in today at at least 205lb.

I did a bit of research and talked to a old historian and he told me since he was around during the era he specificully remembers Marciano weighing around 220lb in the press conference of his retirment

    Toney fought a shot Holyfield.

"Lets face it james toney weighed 217lb vs holyfield, he fought very well and looked in half decent shape."

Put that overweight Toney in with the Holyfield that beat Tyson then we can judge Toney. Toney has never beaten a great Heavyweight in their prime weighing 217.

"I did a bit of research and talked to a old historian and he told me since he was around during the era he specificully remembers Marciano weighing around 220lb in the press conference of his retirment ."

    So?

That does not mean Marciano would have been effective in the 1950's weighing 220.

Yes the Rock is naturally bigger than Patterson, hell, i am naturally bigger than Patterson. If i was sitting next to Patterson i would look two divisions bigger as well.

Ricky Hatton weighs 175-180 when not training, doesn't mean he could compete with Roy Jones Jr.

A untrained Tyson could weigh 235 and still look more muscular than Marciano would ever be at 220. The shot Tyson that fought Lewis at 234 was far bigger than Marciano in terms of bone structure.

And remember Marciano was slow for his size, even at 184 pounds. Tyson at 221 was still faster than Marciano at 184.

How is this relevant to this discussion of bone structure and natural build?

i can also testify to that. i have got my body up to 16 stone naturally at a low body fat. recently i have been doing loads of running and a low carb diet. I want to get cut like Stallone

my body weight has shrunk to under 200 pounds

i will get the weight back when i start eating well again, cutting back on the running and training with weights more

didnt sylvestor stallone (a natural heavy) shrink down to 160 pounds for one of the rocky films

    Shake.

"How is this relevant to this discussion of bone structure and natural build?"

The title of the page is "Marciano's body frame could EASILY be Tua and Tyson."

Marciano did not have Tyson or Tua's bone structure or natural build. So i already given my answer.

The fact that Tyson at 221 is still faster than Rocky at 184 proves the point even further.

Rock would not compete at 210-215 ring weight, we have never seen it.

Yes Rock was a freak of nature, but Tyson is just from another universe along with Tua.

The irony here is that Tysons training regime is probably more akin to Marciano's than to Tuas.

Tyson in his prime was a clasicaly trained fighter in the mould of Joe Louis or Floyd Patterson while Tua is a product of the iron pumping genaration.

I am guessing that if you put Marciano on Tysons training regime he would weigh around 195 lbs while if you put him on Tua's training regime he would have come in at 210-220 lbs.

By the same token if you sent Tyson and Tua to the 1950s Tyson would probably still weigh in at 210-215 or thereabouts while Tua might be closer to 200 before he got fat.

Rocky was a near proffesional baseball catcher, catcher's in baseball have thick builds typically. Rocky weighed in his amatuer fights over 200lb for whatever thats worth. What was he at 13? who knows, he was a high school linebacker and catcher, both those positions require size. I never said rocky was as naturally big as tyson, I just said rock has similiar bone structure and with modern supplements/weight training/nutrition I see no reason why he can't look similiar to tyson at a solid 205-210lb.

Every fighter has a best weight range. Rocky lacked sketal frame to carry an extra 25 pounds above 185. If Rocky was 210 pounds, he would be fater, slower, and with less stamina and flexibility.

Stamina and work rate was Rocky best stuff. Besides, would he hit that much harder at 210? Maybe a triffle in the very early rounds, BUT once he losses his stamina, his power would drop off big time, and that means less late round Ko's.

I think Rocky could be 200 today, but anything north of 210 and he is going to have fat.

We see heavies today 15+ pounds over their ideal weight. Are they better off or worse. Its worse for sure.

Could we please stop making these stupid threads about Marciano in 2009? Jeesh Marciano was a 5'10 180 pound fighter who fought mostly 180 pound fighters, He could never bulk up and do anything against "Modern" heavyweights.

Anyone can add muscle mass today, Marciano could carry 300lbs with enough steroids and protein, although he'd b immobile. 20-30lbs of muscle would benefit him as a HW immesely and make him competitive, improve his power/strength/durability so he could actually compete.

However no his bone structure isnt quite as dence as Tyson or Tuas and no he is not a natural 200+ fighter he'd have to scientifically add the muscle like Holyfield.
