If you were a trainer, how would you strategize to beat PW? This guy is very akward, tall, long arms, throws a lot of punches (from all different/crazy angels) and has great stamina.

Do you think that at 147, 154 anyone has a chance to do it? I'm a fan of Cotto but ughhh... I really don't like that fight for Cotto.

At 160 I think that Kelly has a chance and maybe AA because I don't consider PW to have as much power as maybe the hitman had back in the day but what do you think?

It's a haunting task coming up with a strategy to beat someone with Williams physical advantages but, I can think of four different ways:

    1. Throw more punches. Okay, this is damned near impossible, but if you can do it, you'll probably win. Williams isn't exactly a smart fighter, he's just so active that you cant get anything in against him. If your more active, you win in a real ugly tit for tat.

    2. Power. If you think you have the big punch, try to wear him down to the body a bit and go for the KO. I think a true middleweight could do it.

    3. Hopkins him. Be first, fall into him, hold rough him up, repeat. (this is the most possible plan in my opinion, given that Williams probably got better stamina than... anyone)

    4. Run away. Pull a Floyd and run like heck, throwing an ocasional fhast shot while in range. (This will be really super hard to pull of. because of William's freaky ong reach)

I think Williams has to be beaten with power. You could see Winky had that idea around about the third or fourth round, but Wright trying to throw with bad intentions is just sad.

Margarito had him hurt but couldn't close the show.

Boxing with Williams is a tough, tough prospect. You might do well to start, but you're wasting energy and those 100 punches he's still throwing late in the fight are going to feel harder and harder. If you can hit him and hit him hard when he leaves himself open, maybe you can slow HIM down some.

Counterpunch him with power, lots of power. Williams showed no power against an old Winky, he didnt' hurt him with anything, but Winky landed some power shots to Williams. Winky is not a power puncher, he is a counterpuncher with zero power. What happens if a puncher lands on Williams? I think he will get hurt.

    try to pull a bhop

stay real far away from him then when he jabs fade from his jab then throw right/left hands over the jab then clinch

& stay on your feet ... a lot of lateral bouncy movement

Yeah, maybe we should ask B-Hop to do the job :yep although I don't think that he can get to 160 at this point...

But I wanted to ask you... So, you don't think that anyone at 147 or 154 can do the job? I hope they give the chance to Santos and see what happens. Santos is a tall fighter and a southpaw, that should be a good fight for Paul and maybe capture a title in the way as well.

You have to go punch for punch with williams to beat him. He threw over 1000 punches against winkys 500! Anyways with that 83 inch reach it is unseen if any fighter can go blow for blow. Margarito you would think has the ability and stamina to press a fight with williams but we all saw that ending. idk if anyone in boxing can beat williams today. especially at the lower weights because that reach is so much more valuable compared to those shorter fighters. He will go down as a top 10 fighter when he hangs up the gloves. We may never know how great he really is because nobody wants to fight him

It sounds simple but I know it's not as easy... Whoever does it needs to have a LOT of stamina and training.

Whack the body as hard as possible and try to go for a KO right from the start. Rush him and do not give him a chance to start with his bull****. Take away confidence from the beginning.

    MUCH easier said than done.

I'd like to see the Dzinziruk - Kirkland winner get a crack. Kirkland is very raw, but he's got power, stamina, and the will to keep marching forward.

There's Santos, and Martinez if he has any inclination to return stateside after that Cintron robbery. He might actually give Williams serious problems with his athleticism and accurate counters.

Lots of good fights for Williams at 154.

dawson said if paul keeps winning he would like to do it at a catchweight

thats not the answer... nobody can physically achieve that feat in all of boxing except for joe c... nobody else can throw 1100 punches aside from joe c

    not stamina as much

    - discipline
    - agility & explosion
    - quickness
    - counter puncing
    - be close to his size so he cant totally exploit his physical advantages

    would be the keys

PW throws punches if you are in range but if you are out of his range then he will not just throw punches in the air. I would fight him off the backfoot all night. Constantly turn him. Let him lead and try to make him overreach. Then close the gap, counter, clinch, and walk him back. Eventually (hopefully) there wouldn't even be a need to let him punch first he would be so hesitant you could catch him cold over and over. I think Mosley has the goods but i don't know if he can control the distance against a monster like PW. CQ had the southpaw style that helped him do that cause it threw PW off a little.
