My point was that in less than 15 years (Bowe vs Hide was in 1995) the WBO has come to be one of the more recognized titles in the world. In less than 15 years, It's become accepted.

It only took it 15 years to become respected...which leads me to wonder what sanctioning body is next at this point.

 

Im not saying the IBO belt should be given as much respect as the rest, Im saying they should all go under a complete re-working, a renaissance if you will, and ONE body, with a ranking system similar to the IBO should take over.

in regards to Khaliq, yes he had a terrible night against Bergman (incidentally Bergman was down three times and Khaliq twice) but also looked pretty good in other occasions. What has, say, Amir Khan done to deserve his laughable status as "future ATG" after nothing but handpicked set-ups. Mr "Knocked out by a nobody in 30 seconds" is now FIGHTING for a "proper world title"

Khaliqs career was ravaged by terrible management, eventually he couldnt even get a fight and retired, now if he had Khans management he would have been "WBA" "WBO" "WBC" or "IBF"champ ages ago.

I also find it funny that other than Naz, Khaliq gets compared to Khan most.

 

Look at there champions though as well as there rankings. There the most comical of the big 3. I mean how is it possible to have a dead man in your rankings?

 

Ironic you say that. Khaliqs style is very Khan-esque with that pororus defense and high chin. That being said although Khaliq was prone to knock downs he's chin was decent. As for Khaliq he only boxed because he made a good living out of it. Once its purpose was served he called it time.
And as for Khan you are correct he's title bout is nothing more than a bad farce. BUT SN fighters rarely EVER contest the big 3. The only reason why Khan is touting the WBA is because Warren added M'Baye to his stable to prevent Hatton from fighting for the WBA when he was the mandatory.

 

The WBO is also the same company that at the behest of HBO, "appointed" Gary The Pocket Rocket Locket a mandatory challenger to Kelly Pavlik.

Then again the WBA is pretty much owned by Don King and Sauerland Entertainment.

The IBF has been implicated in all sorts of bribery.

They're all really really bad at this point.

 

The IOC have turned amateur boxing into a joke. We don't need there help unless there willing to rewind the clock back 50 years.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if the next one is the HBO sanctioning body. :roll: They certainly act like one. The WBO got respect rather quickly, but I don't know if the IBO ever will.

It's strange how the baseball commissions were able to unify in the '20s and force the little town-by-town leagues to recognize one set of rules, and only one set of rules... but the creation of a boxing commission specifically designed to nullify and absorb the NYSAC did nothing but dilute the national aspect of the sport and explode into near-irrelevance and all sorts of wacky state-by-state rules in the '60s. :verysad

I suppose that, outside of federal legislation, there'd need to be a deluge of lawsuits against the Big Three all at once to force a merger, then an absorption of the little guys.

 

Face it, it won't ever happen.

We're lumbered with them all forever now. There is too much money at stake to go back to one championship.

 

I wouldn't argue too hard with this. They seem to be the only one that's completely incorrupt. One big issue with the IBO though is that they don't enforce mandatories, so people could duck good fighters with no name pretty much forever.
