what a joke...one irish boxer on the undercard....hayemaker must be having a laugh...the event must be sold out because now hayemmaker feels its safe now to load the bill with english boxers that the belfast crowd will have no interest in....if i could get a refund for my ticket i would...hayemaker are treating the belfast fans like idiots

aye man ...know what it is...for weeks now irish boxing fans have been asking about the undercard of this promotion...but up until today there was no mention who was on the card....now im sure that rhodes and co knew well in advanced that they were due to fight in belfast...but they must have been told by hayemaker not to mentioned it, incase it effected ticket sales...it was a low move by hayemaker....and btw i have no problem with some of the card being english, but there should have been more irish thats all im saying.

I know where your coming from hitman, I think Hayemaker have acted in a less than open manner during the whole run up to this show. But the main thing is Lindsay gets his win and moves forward with his career:deal

British featherweight champion Paul Appleby believes his April 25 challenger Martin Lindsay represents the toughest test of his 14-bout pro career – but is eager totest the Irishman’s resolve with some well-placed body shots.

The 21-year-old Appleby, 14-0 (9 KO), will venture to Belfast for HAYEMAKER 8 and is confident of retaining his belt, despite the threat of home hero Lindsay.

“Lindsay’s a very good opponent,” admits Appleby, the 2008 Boxing Writers’ ‘Young Boxer of the Year’.

“I’m not saying he’s the best opponent I’ve faced – because I haven’t actually boxed him yet – but he’s probably going to be right up there.

“He’s got a really good record, has excellent technique and good skills. I’m not sure whether he’ll be as tough as (John) Simpson, but I think he’s definitely got more technique and skill. I think on paper he may be a bit better than Simpson. We’ll find out once I start landing a few punches on him.”

Appleby beat Simpson over 12 rounds to lift the prestigious Lonsdale crown in June 2008. Disciplined rather than dazzling that night, Appleby completed the 12-round distance for the first time and signalled the beginning of, what he hopes, will be a long reign as British champion.

“It’s brilliant being able to call myself British champion,” enthuses Edinburgh-born Appleby. “I don’t want to lose my belt. You get so much respect from everyone when you’re British champion. I just never want to lose this feeling.

“The first time I did the 12 rounds with Simpson, I wasn’t actually sure I’d be able to handle it beforehand. Sparring and punching bags are very different from actually going 12 hard rounds with an opponent. I was a little bit wary going into that fight. I was pretty tired in the ninth round, but after that I was fine. I got my second wind and got through to the end.”

Appleby expects a similarly gruelling and exhausting battle with the undefeated Lindsay on April 25.

“I’ve seen Lindsay box a few times as a pro and I’ve seen him lots in the amateurs,” adds Appleby. “He doesn’t waste a lot of punches and does everything for a reason.

“I think he’ll cope with the 12 rounds fine, but I just wonder what he’ll be like when I start landing my shots. He got knocked down against Derry Mathews and I think I can do the same to him.”

Lindsay earned his crack at Appleby’s title with a stunning come-from-behind knockout of Mathews last September. It’s a win that impressed Appleby, but also one that may be somewhat deceiving.

“Derry Mathews wasn’t the same fighter he once was,” says Appleby. “I don’t want to take anything away from Lindsay, but if he hits me with the same left-hook I won’t be going down. I’m pretty confident of that.

“Beating Lindsay in his own backyard will be my best win to date. Lindsay is rated really highly by a lot of people. I also rate him really highly. If I were to beat him it would be a brilliant achievement. I need to hurt him early and hopefully put him down or stun him. I’ll then get his respect and take over from that point.”

i was wondering about this. i think they simply banked on lindsays popularity in the wild west (with good reason) and also spent all their time trying to get hayes fight with wlad made they ignored this show to their detriment. also Luke Wilton is from east belfast, people will get to see george groves and ryan rhodes ( minus his 'cold'!!!!) but apart from that they are being more than cheeky.....although who could they have got? the odysey show takes up most sinky, rogie, mccloskey is busy, as is haughian, o'hara too, the southern shows in galway and cork take up people. basically they have pulled a bob arum vis a vis Cotto where he rounds up anyone who looks/sounds puerto rican sticks them on the undercard and sells out MSG!

its more than a bit cheeky...its outrageous...who would put a show on in wales and pack the undercard with english or even a show on in manchester and load it up with londoners..it just does not happen....so why do it in belfast...you say most of the irish fighters are busy atm...thats not true...there are plenty of idle fighters waiting for a fight...hayemaker could not have given a dam...he knew the game he was playing and it was not straight...i could go on about this all night...but im getting more annoyed as i sit here...i hope this comes back on hayemaker and bites them on the ass

To be fair they could of gotten one more out of Willie Thompson, Scott Jordan, Colin Moffett or Jason McKay.

But they'll want as many Hayemaker contracted fighter on the card as possible. Hayemaker don't do that many shows so you can bet you'll see the same guys(Rhodes, Groves, Maguire, woodhouse etc) wherever they fight.

It's unfortunate but for them it makes business sense, although it would of been good if they could have gotten one more of the 4 above on the card.

However Lindsay in a big, big fight against Appleby and Wilton in a rematch of a fight he comfortably won almost exactly a year ago it is. I'm still annoyed Tiedt gave Ahmed the win against Wilton and with such ridiculous scoring. 3 rounds even and one to Ahmed ?, as ****ing if. I had it 3 rounds Wilton with one even, and the first round Wilton won by a mile, I thought he was gonna stop Ahmed in it.

i understand hayemakers delimma...he wants to get his fighters work...but at the same time sell the fight to the belfast fans....as i said before i dont mind a few english fighters on the card but to vitually exclude irish fighters from the undercard[except a 4rd fighter in luke wilton]is a complete farce...and the mostly west belfast crowd will not look too favourabley on this either...lindsay may win or else they could wreck the place...the ulster hall may need another refit by the time the nights over
