Will Hatton be better off moving in and out and trying to "box more" on this Mayweather Sr. business? Or will "the old Ricky Hatton," the guy more likely to just mug and maul, be the more appropriate style of fighter for Manny Pacquiao? Also - "Hatton's style is made for Pacquiao" - what does that mean exactly?

The new Ricky will be sharper and have better timing but the old Ricky still lurks beneath should he need it. I vote new Ricky; bring em both in the ring. He'll need it.

Nah, I think that Roach would rather see the old version of Hatton.

    Jedi Mind trick:hey

Better chance you have to fight young Pacquiao the old way, simple the winning would be:lol:

I think what Roach meant was, it's easier for Manny to face an aggressive straight up brawler, who's always in front of you and is always around your punching range, than a slick, quick, counterpuncher who he has to chase around the ring, overextend/lunge on his punches and get countered.

Both hard opponents to face, but Roach probably feels that fighting a tough, aggressive brawler's a slightly easier puzzle to solve and conquer than an untouchable ghost. (master boxer-counterpuncher)

guys all this talk about the new ricky is just hype. He's the same fighter. You can't suddenly change your whole game up in such a short period of time. Mayweather might be teaching him some new tricks and tightening up his defense, but ultimately Ricky is going to fight like Ricky. You can't change your style after fighting a certain way for so many years. And even if you do, it's not a good idea anyway.

You don't feel he was getting more specific than that, B? Roach said directly - but it's not just Roach - it's alot of people - have been saying that "Hatton's style is made for Pacquiao." How do you interpret that? Because the last time I checked Manny was claustraphobic.

People need to check out Ricky Hatton pre-Tszyu...he hasn't always been a mauler/mugger, he is actually a very decent boxer. Its not a case of changing his whole game for Pac, its about rediscovering what he once was.

I voted "New Ricky Hatton" because the "new" Ricky Hatton is more like the old Ricky Hatton pre Zoo

I agree that matador Manny seems to buckle and lose some composure whenever he's faced an angry bull charging hard towards him.

But I've heard that "tailor made for Pacquiao" phrase ever since he was a flyweight. Those fighters' styles make it easier for him to catch them flush with hard punches, even if he's also in danger of getting knocked out in the process.

His career hasnt done so bad, actually, even with this ch!nk in his armor.

In fact, it will be about the basic framework, and the 'look' that Hatton gives Pacquiao - bouncing around on the outside - or smashing right down Manny's throat.. This changes the entire complexion of the fight.

honestly, stylistically, i dont think Hatton has a chance. I like him a lot, but I think Pac is just going to eat him up.

    obviously the old ricky.

whoever chose "box more" should slap themselves silly.

It depends which part of his old style we're talking about.

It often included a lack of head movement or even basic defence, where he'd run into a lot of shots. Especially the straight left from a southpaw. I don't think he needs that particular attribute of his old style. However, there is not much point in being too cute.

Why haven't I seen that up in class? Even the no-hopers made Pacquiao look bad when they just rushed his ass. Pacquiao might be able to catch them flush, as you say, but his power in retreat-boxer mode isn't even comparable to what it is when he's moving forward - and speaking of retreat mode; that seems to be a problem in itself for Pacquiao.. He leaves himself dead red every few exchanges. How in the world is this guy going to fight a clean enough fight to pull this off? I guess most people have to be assuming he can take Hatton's power - nah - they think Hatton won't even be able to hit him.. :rofl
