Remember Cus was keeping Patterson away from the Heavyweight dangermen until he could do it no further, and we saw what happened.

    Sonny Liston.

Patterson was dropped by Pete Radmacher having his first pro fight. And PATTERSON WAS CHAMPION. Even the Referee was surprised.

What makes you think Patterson could not get KO'd by the Langford that Johnson beat?

I think Pattersonsomtimes gets sold a bit short in the chin department.

Yes his chin was dentable and DaMatto had no desire to put him in with big punches if he could help it.

On the other hand the two men who did starch him (Johansen and Liston) were both all time punchers.

"I think Patterson somtimes gets sold a bit short in the chin department."

But his chin could not withstand Jeffries, Langford, McVey or Jeanette.

Do you really see Patterson beating Jeffries despite being faster?

Then your time on here has not been wasted:good
I see you left out the other talents I listed, namely, judgement of distance ,anticipation,,reflexes, balance. All of these can be developed to varying degrees but some are blessed with more ability to utilise them than others.Which is what I said when I stated Baer could train till dooms day but he would never reach the level of ability in those fields that Johnson had.Gym work is learning the basic techinques and honing your body to apply them,if it was a question of just constant repetition to master the disciplines every fighter would be a defensive master, ala Mayweather,Whitaker,Pep ,Johnson. No one trained harder than Marciano ,but he would never have become defensively impregnable he did not have the innate ability.
It seems to me you do not like the fact that some of us questioned your definition of natural talent.I think Ive spent enough time on this subject ,how about you?

Depends what type of fight it is.
    Bareknuckles - Johnson
    Mordern - Patterson

    Why do you say this?
Johnson did not fight in the London Prize Ring era, he fought fights with regulated 3 minute rounds ,wearing gloves.

Patterson would be taken into deep water and drowned. Johnson by late TKO.

And I agree that Johnson had these, no doubt. Baer's natural abilities were different, as I stated in my first post, but they were arguably equal in proportion. Different ability set but arguably equal in proportion, that was my assertion. Baer honed virtually nothing in his repertoire. Johnson gleaned from many, including guys who beat him like Chonyski, and developed a great defensive style of boxing for his time. Therein lies much of the difference in the finished products of both boxers.

In regards to the match-up at hand, I am still trying to think of any Johnson opponent who combined the handspeed and pop of Patterson. I think this is a dangerous matchup for a "time-machine" Johnson. Furthermore, the insinuation that Johnson was some sort of Sonny Liston is laughable.

While I doubt if any heavyweight has possessed the handspeed of Patterson,Ali included,I think there were fighters on Johnson's record that probably hit as hard if not harder than Floyd.
Johnson and Liston would be the Mutt and Jeff of pugilism imo.
