Like for example, your in the gym regularly, working good, you feel fit, and you suddenly STOP. How many days or weeks would it take for you to be a significantly different/lower stamina or fitness?

for some it only takes a couple of days to be affected by it. also depends on how you eat as well. and how active in your daily life you are. for example do you watch tv all day or are you out side on walks if you aren't working out.

    others it takes weeks.

me personally it took months but it finally caught up with me and im up shits creek without a paddle slowly getting back into shape.

Depends on the individual. I know that's a horrible answer but hey.

A rest can be good, even if it involves doing **** all. Often athletes are told to take a week of and do nothing, re-charge the batteries. For us normal folk it will often depend on what you do for a living, if it's a physical job or a office job. Do you drive in and to the lift, or walk a mile to the bus stop and then walk another mile to the office where you walk the stairs?

I've got a 5K race on Saturday. At the moment I'm not working but aswell as all the training I do a **** load of walking everyday plus housework. From Thursday I'm doing as little as possible, e.g. on my arse watching TV. I'll be fitter and stronger for it come the race than if I had killed myself with a 10 mile run.

For me personally it varies depending on what form of exercise I am doing. I can take 2- 3 weeks off and it won't really effect my long distance running. But if I take a week off the weights I notice the next session is incredibly hard and I am rarely able to do what I did just a week before.

muscles can go away quickly but if your young and you have built up a strong aerobic base, it stays for a very long time and takes months to go down.

with in 1 week you will have lost some fitness. How much, depends on the individual. If you have a good base fitness you will get back to where you were real quick. And depends on your lifestyle outside boxing too.

yeah that sounds right, my trainer always says leading up to a fight. Everyday of training you miss is really like missing 2 days by the time you catch up.

Yep. 3 months of training can be lost in 1 month of inactivity, so I was told by a world-class swimmer. In my experience, it's true. Do SOMETHING, it sucks serious butt to have suffered terribly getting into shape to lose it all and go back to square one because you put off working out because your job was tough, or some ****. Run-on sentence:lol:

I read an article similar to this topic in a running magazine. Some study they did estimated a decline in performance after about 2 weeks of inactivity, but that's what the meters and machines and print-outs show. I think the majority of it is mental, as I know if I miss a few days I start feeling fat and slow (more so than normal) - but I think it's mostly in your head.
