He has a better resume out of Cotto and Calzaghe?

Cotto. Mosley, Zab, Malignaggi, Torres, Quintana. If he beats Clottey, then no question.

We all know that ESB is a latino-filled web site, but this is just plain ridiculous.

Kessler and Cotto has had similar carreers for the majority. Take out Mosley and they would be around even. However, for reasons of longevity (ruling a division for a decade - being undefeated etc. Calzaghe is ahead of both.

Ha Ha "Calzaghe beat the Man" erm... How old was Hopkins? Dont start that **** about him beating Pavlik either, Pavlik was a middleweight who was beat upon by a genuine LightHeavy. Calzaghe's resume was shite, and now only looks remoteley admirable becuse there's two fighters on there who's legend came about in the 90's. Even though he's had lots of 'Decisions' in fights the only one he chose to rematch was Mario Veit. He fought 2 fighters who became 'well known' through reality TV, as a world champion and was pushed very close by one. He said he wouldn't fight in America due to his fear of flying, yet when Hopkins and Jones were past there best (by at least 5 yrs) he suddenly cant stop getting on a plane. His Kessler win was a very very good win and Lacy was ok but he'd had 24 fights before the Calzaghe one which IMO is not a fighter in their prime. And for the record Calzaghe even tried pulling out of that fight. Cotto had a better resume 2 years ago !!!

 

Calzaghe: Hopkins, Kessler, Eubanks, Lacy, Shadow of Roy, Reid, Woodhall

Cotto: Mosley, Judah, Quintana, Malinaggi, Torres, Corely and a loss to Margarito.

I voted even but kind of regret it now, I thought Cotto had better wins for some reason. If he beats Clottey 'even' sounds about right.

Clearly Calzaghe at this stage.

Cotto has Torres, Malignaggi at 140, which lets be honest aint stellar.

Then Quintana, which is good not great, Judah (who was way shopworn, this win means little) and Mosley. Mosley was very close, and he was not P4P at the time. Yes he has bounced back considerably, but that is now and this was then. His fight with Mayorga should tell you a lot.

Calzaghe's wins over Hopkins and Kessler are way better than anything Cotto has thus far. The Mosley win shades Eubank, but even Calzaghe's second tier opponents are a shade better than Cotto's.

Either way I'm not nuthugging, I dont like Calzaghe and his resume is very poor considering his career. But at this stage its better. Quintana a better win than Kessler?

I have no doubt Cotto's resume will be far superior to Calzaghe's when he hangs them up though, and it is already getting close. He is just lacking wins over one or two true pound for pounders, then he is there.

But there is clearly a lot of biased opinion in this thread.

Margarito? A dominant loss to an average champion isn't a good thing. Though if you are going purely on a list of names basis, then i might understand putting Cotto in front, but i see valuing a resume as pretty much the sum of all results.

I really like Cotto and i don't like Calzaghe's fans much but this is a bit of a no brainer. Gatekeepers like Judah and Torres are no better than guys like Bika and Reid. Calzaghe wins as a result of longevity and the absence of an embarrasing loss to a forgettable champion.

 

Haye you can't say that cotto's win over Mosley was not that good because he wasn't classed that well but he came back and people started rating him....Erm what about Hopkins? People were saying he was past it then Calzaghe's win looked good when he picked Pavlik apart.

A late start? A young and unexperienced Joe won the title of Eubank,i know he was coming to the end but anybody who beat Eubank at such inexperiene deserves credit and did he not step up in weights for these so called big supper fights? This always annoys me cuz B Hop or RJJ never wanted to fight a so called slapper and a lighter weight fighter in front of 60,000 brits!!! Thats one bit of credit we can all give Lacy. Oh and whilst on the subject,did B hop say he would never loose to a white boy? How would it ov gone down if JC said the opposite? He kept his dignity all the way through his carrear and beat everyone put in front of him,Cotto not even close at this stage of his but good fighter.

Proud warrior - Hopkins never lost to a white boy in a lot of peoples opinions. Joe should have re-matched but we all know he wouldnt because he doesn't do rematches unless there called Veit
